    Default Portsmouth 8/4/12

quick heavy rain shower around 5:30 put a long delay to start of activities. Hot laps started around 8:30pm. Very nice racing all night long. Track was tacky, lots of grip.

There was no qualifying due to time constraints.

24 late models, 24 modifieds, 20 limited lates, 20 bombers

track was very nice bottom 2/3 of the track, big clumps of mud up on the cushion during heat races. They scraped the cushion flat and clean before the features started.

Boggs 4B started pole and looked like the car to beat. On lap 1 caution, 4B pulls off for no apparent reason (2 weeks in a row). Several cautions between lap 1 and lap 4, after that the race ran pretty good (25 laps). Lots of great racing action all through the field. Rod Conely came from back of filed to finish around 6th. Steve Lucas was running up front led some laps then pulled off on final laps, car was smoking near the end. Delmas Conely put on heck of a show, starting 5th and making a pass to win the race coming to the checkered flag, edging out Adkins.

    71 Delmas Conely
not sure about exact order of 2nd-5th:
    1 Nick Bocook
    57 Ben Adkins
47 (can't remember name right now)
    71 RJ Conely

Rod Conely involved in a few interesting incidents:
First, he got too low in turns 3-4 down around tires and got spun out by the high heavy mud and damaged front end of car (cosmetic), sent to the rear. Then on lap 2 or 3, JT Conely and 2 others spin out, Rod got side swiped by JT damaging the left side of his car, basically the whole side including spoiler.

Trouble lining up on the restart, 25 Butcher won't let Conley in position, they ride around for about 8 laps under caution till they black flag Butcher. Butcher tries to restart at rear but they black flag him again. Now the funny things about this is that: 1) Butcher is fighting for 2nd or 3rd position from rear (2) Rod has stronger car and was going to pass him within 5 seconds on the start anyways (3) Butcher barely made show to begin with, not a great car (4) the track had already made the decision, there was no use arguing the call (5) he was probably right, I think he should have been in front of Rod.

After the restart, with no Butcher on the track, Rod got up to about 6 or 7th, made some nice passes, before he had flat tire and pulled off, no doubt cut in JT incident. Probably a nice "family" meeting after the race.
