CLMA Returns to El Paso & SNMS 8/17 & 8/18

The Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print will be returning to El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway in just under two weeks.

The Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print will be at El Paso Speedway Park, in El Paso, TX on Friday, August 17th. Scott Lewis of Henderson, CO picked up his only win of the 2011 season on his way to winning the 2011 CLMA DIRTcar Series Championship when the series visited the track for the first time ever.

On Saturday, August 18th the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Series Presented by Indy Screen Print will finish off the weekend at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, NM. Durring last years visit to Southern New Mexico Speedway home town favorite Bumper Jones was able to pick up his first ever win in a late model.

Both nights of racing will pay $1,200 to win and $225 to start

When the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print returns to El Paso Speedway Park on August 17th, 2011 El Paso Speedway Park Track Champion and 2011 CLMA DIRTcar Series Rookie of the Year, Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, NM will be the favorite to win at one of his home tracks. Garrett has already picked up two wins with the CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print in 2012 and is leading the points by 50 points over 2011 CLMA DIRTcar Series Champion, Scott Lewis. Garrett has also won 5 of 7 weekly late model races that have been raced at El Paso Speedway Park in 2012.

Garrett will also be a big threat to win at his other home track when the CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series returns to Southern New Mexico Speedway on Saturday, August 18th. Garrett has won 6 out of 9 weekly late model races that have been run at Southern New Mexico Speedway in 2012.

The 2011 Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Series Champion, Scott Lewis, of Henderson, CO can't wait to get back to El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway. Durring the the CLMA's 2011 visit to the tracks Scott picked up his only CLMA win of the 2011 season at El Paso Speedway Park and went from 22nd to 2nd at Southern New Mexico Speedway. Scott says that these have become two of his favorite tracks and can't wait to get back down there and try to pick up another win and cut into Garrett Alberson's points lead. Lewis is currently 2nd in CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print points, 50 points behind point leader Garrett Alberson.

The late model races at El Paso Speedway Park on August 17th and at Southern New Mexico Speedway on August 18th will be Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print, DIRTcar Western Region, and DIRTcar National Points races.

The only other driver besides Garrett Alberson that has won a late model race at El Paso Speedway Park in the 2012 season is local modified star Jimmy Ray. Jimmy started racing late models this year after being away from the class for a very long time. He has came back this year and has had pretty good success. He has two wins at El Paso Speedway Park and 1 win at Southern New Mexico Speedway. Earlier this year in only his second start with the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print Jimmy picked up a 5th place finish at Aztec Speedway. Jimmy is another one of the local drivers that could upset the out of town guys this year when the CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print returns to El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway on August 17th and 18th.

If everything goes good this weekend in Show Low, AZ the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print will see a rare appearance from the all time winningest driver in SWDRA History (65 wins) and Championships (6), Lonnie Parker, Jr of Glendale, AZ. The last time that Lonnie raced with the CLMA DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print was earlier this year at Aztec Speedway where he finished 4th.

Any driver that drives more than 300 miles to come race with the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print at El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway on August 17th & 18th will make a minimum of $275 to start the A-Main both nights. Also any driver that is in the top 10 in Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print Points will make a minimum of $275 to start the A-Main both nights.

A couple more of the local drivers that you might see give the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print regulars a run for their money when the series comes to El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway on August 17th & 18th are Garrett Higgins of Aztec, NM and Ron "Cudder" Frazier of Bosque Farms, NM.

Garrett has a hand full of top fives racing with the series the past two years and was leading a race in Aztec in 2011 with three laps to go before he spun to miss a lapped car. Garrett has also picked up a win at Southern New Mexico Speedway earlier this year.

Ron "Cudder" Frazier has also picked up a win at Southern New Mexico Speedway this year so he knows how to get around the track. He has a career best finish of 2nd with the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Series last year at Aztec Speedway.

I just checked the 5 day weather forecast for this weekends Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print races at El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway on August 17 & 18th and it looks great. It is supposed to be in the low to mid 90's with 0% chance of rain both days. It should be some perfect weather for some Super Late Model racing!!!!

Another great driver that well be racing with the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen at El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway on August 17th & 18th is R.C. Whitwell of Tuscan, Arizona.

After moving to Missouri and racing with the MARS DIRTcar Series for the past year and a half R.C. has decided to move back to Tuscan and race around home. He had one win with the MARS DIRTcar Series in 2011 and finshished 3rd in series points. Since R.C Whitwell has came back home he has been on fire. He has won the only two late model races that he has entered with the SWDRA at Tuscan and Show Low.

This will be the first time that he has raced a late model at either track, but he has been to Soutern New Mexico a few times with his modified so he knows his way around the track. If R.C. continues to run as fast as he has for the past month he will be a big threat to win this weekend.

Here is what the format will be for the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Southern Series Presented by Indy Screen Print races on August 17th & 18th at El Paso Speedway Park and Southern New Mexico Speedway. Each night will be a complete show.

1.) Drivers will draw a pill before the pit meeting to determain their starting spot in the heat races. There will be 3 or 4 heat races depending on car count.

2.) Drivers will hot lap with the cars that will be in their heat race

3.) Heat Races - (10 laps) The top 4 cars from each heat race will advance to the A-Main Event. The top 2 cars from each heat race will go to the Dash for Cash.

4.) Dash for Cash - (1 lap per car) All Cars in the dash will redraw for A-Main starting possition on the front stretch after the dash.

5.) B-Main -(15 laps) If there are 4 heat races the top 4 cars in the B-Main will transfer to the A-Main, if there ar 3 heat races the top 6 cars in the B-Main will transfer to the A-Main. There will be 1 provisional for the top car in CLMA points that does not qualify for A-Main.

6.) A-Main (30 laps) - 21 cars will start the A-Main
