Harold Hardgrove Memorial $4,000 to win at Lake Cumberland Speedway on August 18

Burnside, KY-August 5, 2012- Lake Cumberland Speedway track promoter Brandon Hardgrove and staff will take off this Saturday August 11, but will return to action in a big way on Saturday August 18 with the 4th Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial event, paying $4,000 to win for the Super Late Model division at the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval.

The Saturday August 18 event will see the presentation of the 4th Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial event, with the Super Late Model division taking centerstage with a full program of practice, time trials, heats, B-Mains, and the 50 lap, $4,000 to win Harold Hardgrove Memorial A-Main contest. There will a $40 entry fee for the Super Late Model division for this event. Also on the August 18 racing program will be the Modified division racing for $1,000 to win in their main event, with the Modifieds also having a full program of practice, time trials, heats, B-Mains, and their $1,000 to win A-Main event. Joining the Super Late Models and Modifieds for the 4th Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial event will be the Super Dirt Stock/Sportsman division racing for $300 to win (8 car minimum) and the Front Wheel Drives racing for $100 to win (8 car minimum).

Also, Lake Cumberland Speedway is pleased to announce that the American Cancer Society is teaming up with Lake Cumberland Speedway to present the 4th Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial event on Saturday August 18 as a way of promoting cancer awareness in the Southeastern Kentucky area. Proceeds from the Harold Hardgrove Memorial event on Saturday August 18 will go to benefit the American Cancer Society, which promotes cancer awareness and helps those families in need that are coping with this disease.

Activities for the 4th Annual Harold Hardgrove Memorial event on Saturday August 18 racing event will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m., with a mandatory drivers meeting at 7:00 p.m. Practice is set to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. Ticket prices for the Saturday August 18 racing event in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while a pit pass will be $35.

The Harold Hardgrove Memorial event first appeared on the Lake Cumberland Speedway schedule after the late Mr. Hardgrove passed away in August 2009 and the track was taken over by his son and current track promoter Brandon Hardgrove, with Greg Johnson of Bedford, IN would lay claim to the win in the inaugural running of the event. Second-generation racer Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN would take the win in the 2010 contest, while Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY would score the victory in the 2011 event as is the defending race champion.

Lake Cumberland Speedway last raced on Saturday August 4 and feature event winners that evening included Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN in Super Late Models, Mikah Reams of Mount Vernon, KY in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman, and Adam Gregory of Gray, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

Current track championship point leaders heading into the upcoming Harold Hardgrove Memorial event on Saturday August 18 include Johnny Wheeler of Campbellsville, KY in Super Late Models, Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/ Sportsman, and Rusty Light of Nancy, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

Lake Cumberland Speedway is located at 1 Racetrack Road, just outside of Burnside, KY, just past the entrance to General Burnside Island State Park.
