Thread: Setting valves

    Default Setting valves

Fellow racer has a 430 all aluminum 18* double swap cam motor. Didnt get a cam card with motor.
We know lift is somewhere between 700 and 800. Valves were set on 9 cold when bought. This guy asked around and had some people
tell him to set it between 5 and 7 cold. When it warmed up they would be set. Is this something new? My motor is preety close
with a double swap, but they are set on 20 and 18. Need input.

    Thanks

You really need to get it to operating temp, set the lash at whatever is recommended and then let it totally cool down and then check them cold. We use a temp gun to check block/head temp when setting cold as you will see a difference when you set them cold and it's 45* outside vs 100* day..LOL..Our cam is similiar with an all aluminum engine deal and at temp we are at a lash of .018/.020 and to get there when it is stone cold we are set the valves at .000/.002....
