13-Year-Old, Jake Griffin Rips Through Tripleheader Weekend

Quincy, Illinois (08/14/12) – 13-year-old, Jake Griffin not only won another Asphalt Open Wheel Modified feature over the weekend, but he also claimed his first career Dirt Super Late Model victory.

It was a busy and successful weekend for the team as Jake visited victory lane on multiple occasions during the course of the three day affair. On Friday Griffin was back at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) in a Weekly Racing Series Event. He started his night by winning his heat race in the Open Wheel Modified, and then backed it up by charging to the win in the feature. He was followed across the finish line by Brian Gibson, Ryan Luedtke, David McCalla, and Travis Thompson. In the Late Model division Jake finished fifth in his heat race before advancing to a fifth place finish in the feature behind race winner, Andy Edwards, Thor Anderson, Dudley Fleck, and Jay Jaspers. Full results and the latest point standings from both divisions are available at www.HawkeyeDownsSpeedway.com.

Saturday night was a major accomplishment for Jake as he raced to his first-ever, UMP Super Late Model win with a triumph at Montgomery Motorsports Park (New Florence, Missouri), and he would do it in thrilling fashion. He would run second for much of the event before staging a late-race pass of the leader and his cousin, Dustin Griffin. Jake went on to lead the closing laps claim the big win! A make-up feature from the program that was delayed by rain last Saturday night was also held for the UMP Super Late Model class, and Jake would start on the tail before charging through the pack to a third place finish.

In the UMP Open Wheel Modified class double features were held as well and in the make-up feature he finished third, and in the new program he was slated to start on the pole, but it was discovered before the start of the race that the four bar was broken, so he unfortunately had to scratch from the program.

Sunday night saw the team ending their weekend at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois), and Griffin would continue to battle bad luck at his home track. The night started well in the UMP Super Late Model class as Jake won his heat race to earn a spot in the pole-sitter's dash. He would finish fourth in the dash, which positioned him starting fourth in the feature. In the main event he slipped back through the field to an eleventh place finish.

In the UMP Open Wheel Modified class fourteen entries were in action, and a second place finish in his heat race positioned him starting third on the grid for the feature. However, much like the UMP Late Model feature he would battle issues as he slipped backwards to an eleventh place finish in the feature. Full results are available at www.QuincyRaceways.com.

"Even though Quincy wasn't the best of nights, we had an awesome weekend!" notes Griffin. "To get my first Super Late Model win is a big deal to me, and to win again in the Asphalt Modified means a lot to me too. It's really exciting to be getting wins on dirt and asphalt on consecutive nights."

Jake has now won a total of six feature events this year and is currently in the top fifty in the UMP National Modified standings and is in the top hundred in the UMP National Late Model standings. Full standings are available at www.UMPRacing.com .

This weekend, August 17th-19th, will be another tripleheader weekend for the team. On Friday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Jake will take part in the Open Wheel Modified and Late Model divisions. On Saturday night, the team will return to Montgomery County Speedway (Florence, Missouri) for a Weekly Racing Series Event before concluding the weekend at Quincy Raceways (Quincy, Illinois) on Sunday night.
