Dustin Neat Dazzles in Colston Paving 60 Victory at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY- August 24, 2012- Ponderosa Speedway would return to action a three-week layoff from action with the Colston Paving 60 in front of a packed house of race fans and a full pit area and Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY would claim the $7,500 payday by taking the win in the Colston Paving 60 for the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Models. Other feature event winners for the evening included Ricky Arms of Moss, TN in Clayton Homes Modifieds and Derek Bottoms of Taylorsville, KY in Ken Towery’s Auto and Tire Care Sportsman.

Dustin Neat and Mike Marlar would bring the 22 car starting field to the green flag in the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Late Model Colston Paving 60 A-Main, with Dustin Neat taking the race lead, with third place starter Brad Neat going to second. The Neat brothers would set a rapid pace at the front and would begin the process of lapping slower traffic on lap 11, while third place running Mike Marlar would begin to reel in the lead duo prior to the caution flag waving on lap 19 for Greg Johnson, who had slowed in turn two. Back underway, Dustin Neat would continue to hold the top sport, while younger brother Brad would challenge on occasion from his second position, while Eddie Carrier, Jr. and Dustin Linville dueled for the fourth position. Just as the pair again caught slower traffic, the caution would wave for the final time for Michael Paul Howard, who had slowed with mechanical issues in turn two. When racing resumed, the Neat’s would continue to run first and second, whild Eddie Carrier, Jr. would slip past Marlar for the third spot. By lap 40, Dustin Neat was beginning to stretch his lead out somewhat and would survive slight contact with a slower traffic in traffic six laps from the finish to drive to the win aboard his Red Buck Cigars/Neat’s Service Center/Keltner Contracting/Southern Rayz Tanning/D&R Livestock sponsored #25 Longhorn Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine. Brad Neat would finish second, while Carrier, Jr., Marlar, and Linville would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be 10th starting Jared Landers, 12th starting Victor Lee, Eric Wells, Earl Pearson, Jr., and Stephen Breeding. Thirty-seven entries would see Eddie Carrier, Jr. be the top qualifier in Group A 13.428 seconds, while Brad Neat would be the top qualifier in Group B and overall top qualifier at 13.288 seconds. Heat wins fell to D.J. Wells, Dustin Neat, Brad Neat, and Mike Marlar, while Jonathan Davenport and Michael Paul Howard won the B-Mains. Provisional starters were Michael England (time) and Todd Coffman (track).

Ricky Arms would take the lead at the start of the Clayton Homes Modified main event and lead all 25 laps in taking the win, staving off the repeated challenges of Jimmy Payne to take the $1,000 victory behind the wheel of the Randy Davis owned NAPA Auto Parts/Arms Body Shop sponsored #4 Lightning Chassis. Payne would take runner-up honors, with Benji Lee, John Demoss, and Shon Flanary rounding out the top five. Completing the top ten would be Bryan Barber, Michael England, Russ Gabbert, Shawn Tolson, and Keith Denny. The Ken Towery Auto and Tire Care Sportsman feature would see Glenn Hounshell, Jr. lead the first 18 prior to he and second place running Eddie Stewart as they took the white flag and entered turn one, also collecting third place running Bartley Grant. This turn of events would hand the race lead over to Derek Bottoms, who would survive a two lap shootout to score the $500 win in the seat of the Tracy Bottoms owned Gray Racing/Sherrard Automotive/Lincoln Arms/Terhune’s Body Shop/Bagdad Lumber sponsored #93 Chevy Impala. Gerald Haynes, Jr. would finish second, while Stewart and Grant would recover to claim third and fourth, with Steve Rector completing the top five.
