Mike Marlar Picks up $3,000 Super Late Model Win at Lake Cumberland Speedway

Burnside, KY-September 15, 2012- After a two-week hiatus, Lake Cumberland Speedway would return to action on Saturday evening with a $3,000 to win special for Super Late Models and Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would pick up the lead with four laps remaining and score the victory. Other feature event winners for the evening would be Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY in Modifieds, Keith Decker of Somerset, KY in Super Dirt Stocks/Sportsman, and Johnnie Adams of Somerset, KY in Front Wheel Drives.

The 40 lap, $3,000 to win Super Late Model main event would get off to a rocky start six caution periods in the first 8 laps of the event, with the most serious being for a six car pile-up that turned into a red flag on lap 5. Tim Tungate had taken the lead at the start of the event and another caution on lap 16, the racing action got going good and Tungate would maintain the top spot, with Chris Combs giving chase. Seventh starting Mike Marlar would begin to flex his muscles and would take third from Victor Lee around the midpoint of the race and would finally grab second from Combs on lap 26. Tungate continued to maintain a comfortable lead and would begin to work slower traffic on lap 31. Tungate’s great run would go sour on lap 37 when he and a slower car made contact, resulting in Tungate looping his mount in turn four and surrendering the race lead. Marlar would lead the final four circuits to take the win aboard his Marlar’s and Son Auto Dismantling/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply sponsored #1CJ C.J. Rayburn Race Car. Combs would take second, with scoring a third place finish. Skylar Marlar would recover from the lap 5 incident to work his way back to fourth, while 14th starting Jesse Lay would complete the top five. Twenty-two entries would see Tungate also be top qualifier at 13.184 seconds and also win a heat, while Brad Neat and Michael Chilton would also be heat winners, with Tommy Bailey winning the B-Main.

The 20 lap, $800 to win Modified feature event would also be a caution-filled event, but Tommy Bailey would take the lead at the outset of the race and would never be seriously challenged throughout in taking the victory behind the wheel of the Matthew and Kenneth Jordan owned Jordan Motorsports/ Mac-Trac Transportation/Micro Armor Lubricants/TSM Enhancements/Diamond Auto Collision/Best Waste Service/Lakeside Towing sponsored #17J Lightning Chassis powered by a Niebel Race Engine. Cameron Marlar would edge Elliott Despain for the runner-up position, while Ben Petrey and Ricky Tinch rounded out the top five. Sixteen entries would see Ricky Arms be the top qualifier at 14.189 seconds, while heat race wins fell to Tim Patrick and Bailey.

Keith Decker would again turn in a dominant performance in picking up the victory in the 15 lap Super Dirt Stock/Sportsman feature event in his unsponsored #2 machine. Goble Bertram would finish in second, while Tim McMullin would score a third place finish. David Murphy and first time competitor Phillip Anderson would finish fourth and fifth. Six entries would also see Decker win the heat.

Johnnie Adams and Adam Gregory would battle throughout the 10 lap Front Wheel Drive feature event, with Adam coming out on top of the battle and taking the feature win in the Barron Cabinets sponsored #7. Gregory would finish second, followed by Rusty Light and Scott Tomlinson. The four entries would Gregory win the heat event.
