if you have a ford 9" try 6.00-6.33, if you are running a stock rearend you might have to look into something else.

I would try a 2.42 first or 2.73. Not sure if that gear is available for 8.5? Then run it in Low. You will not find a rear gear tall enough to turn those rpms in 3rd gear.

i run a stock 7.5 with a 2.56 and a th350 in first gear with a stock 355 and a gm z28 cast iron high rise "cast iron copy of the old aluminum one", stock below plug cast iron exhaust, 4412 holley and i turn 6000 rpm on a 3/8 mile..with the cast iron lower intakes you will get 5500 rpm, try the 2.73 or higher.
