Mike Marlar Edges Flat Tires for Big Wins at Screven & Cherokee

Winfield, Tennessee (11/19/12) - Not event flat tires could slow down a determined Mike Marlar over the weekend as he piloted his #5b Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to two wins in three events in Georgia and South Carolina.

The weekend opened on Friday night at Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Georgia) with a $3,000-to-win, Ultimate Super Late Model Series event. With twenty-two Super Late Models on hand for the hand Mike qualified sixth fastest to lock into the sixth starting spot for the main event. During the course of the feature he passed four cars to work his way into the second spot before pressuring Jordy Knipper to the checkered flag. Despite his best efforts Marlar would have to settle for a second place finish.

On Saturday evening the winner's purse was bumped to $5,000-to-win as the Ultimate Super Late Model Series once again sanctioned the event. Qualifications saw Mike registering the fifth fastest time to lock into the fifth starting spot for the 50 lap finale. Mike quickly worked his way forward to the lead as the race went green, but his feature outing would be far from uneventful as contact with a lap car with eighteen laps remaining resulted in a bent, left-front wheel and a flat tire. Despite the damage Marlar was able to fend off his foes on his way to the win! He was followed across the line by Clint Smith, Johnny Pursley, Shane Clanton, and Brian Reese. The victory was his first with the Ultimate tour. Full results are available at www.UltimateSupers.com .

Sunday afternoon found the team traveling to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) for the annual Blue/Grey 100. The Southern All Star Dirt Car Series event attracted twenty-three Super Late Models to the lightning fast oval for the $10,000-to-win finale. Mike began his afternoon by winning the third heat to lock into the third starting spot for the 100 lap finale. With tire wear on everyone's mind for the grueling feature, the green flag dropped, and Mike assumed the fourth spot, and that's where he would ride for the next seventy laps before he made the move into the third spot. As the race approached its closing laps the leaders began to battle tire issues, and on lap 97 Randy Weaver saw his time at the front of the pack eliminated by a flat tire as he headed pit side. Mike inherited the lead and went on to pace the final three circuits to claim the victory! As the team celebrated in victory lane Marlar noticed that his right-rear tire had gone flat. Luckily it lasted just long enough. The victory was his first ever with the series and was his eighth overall of the 2012 campaign! He was followed across the line by Jared Landers, Dennis Franklin, Casey Roberts, and Ivedent Lloyd Jr.

"This was just an incredible weekend for us," noted Marlar. "After all of the drama and headaches of the past week it was just good to put everything behind us. It just goes to show how great our Bryson Motorsports team is and how hard everybody works. This goes out to all of them as well as our great sponsors and fans!"
