Dale McDowell Conquers the Gap; Smoky Mountain Speedway Next

Welcome, North Carolina (03/19/13) – Team Dillon Racing and their drivers, Dale McDowell and Ty Dillon, traveled to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) over the weekend to compete in the inaugural events for the newly formed, Ray Cook's Spring Nationals, and along the way McDowell scored his second win of the season in his #17m Team Dillon Racing/Mastersbilt/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

On Friday night a $4,000-to-win event was held, and with twenty-nine entries on hand McDowell registered the fastest time in the field with a 12.912 circuit around the 4/10 mile oval to lock into the pole position with Billy Ogle Jr. joining him on the front row. As the feature went green McDowell shot to the lead and never looked back on his way to his second straight victory, which was worth $4,000. Ogle Jr., Steve Casebolt, Chris Madden, and David Payne rounded out the top five.

Via preliminary action Ty Dillon locked into the eleventh starting spot for the finale in his #41 Warrior/ECR Racing Engine Super Late Model. With passing being difficult Dillon would advance to a tenth place finish.
On Saturday night the winner's purse was increased to $10,000, and McDowell started his night by earning the third starting spot for his heat via time trials. A third place finish in the heat sent McDowell to the ninth starting spot for the 60 lap feature, and in the finale he would finish ninth.

Ty qualified third fastest in his group to earn the second starting spot for his heat race, and after finishing second he started fifth. After battling in the top five early in the event he crossed the finish line in the seventh position.
