Chris Brown Runner Up at King of America III Modified Nationals

Spring, Texas (04/02/13) – Chris Brown piloted his #21 Lone Star Hydro & Maintenance/Hughes/Roush Yates Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified to a second place finish in the coveted King of America III Modified Nationals over the weekend.

After being delayed a week by Mother Nature the King of America III Modified Nationals was held over the weekend at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas) as ninety-seven of the best Open Wheel Modified pilots in the country entered the $10,000-to-win event, which was sanctioned by the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).

Thursday and Friday night found a series of double heat races contested, and on Thursday night Chris won his first heat from the second starting spot and advanced from the ninth starting spot to a fourth place finish in his second heat. He ended the night fourteenth in the overall point standings.

Friday night found Chris winning his first heat race from the third starting spot, and he passed five cars in the second heat to finish third. His combined points from the two nights locked him into the tenth starting spot for Saturday night's 100 lap finale.

In the feature on Saturday evening he progressively began working his way forward as the event went green. By lap 30 he was into the top five as he continued his march forward. A spirited battle waged for positions two through six during the race's mid-stages, but Brown would work his way past Jeremy Payne into the second spot by lap 80 as he set his sights on the leader, Ryan Gustin. Over the final twenty laps Brown applied heavy pressure to the leader, and even pulled alongside him on a few occasions, but fell just short of making the pass as he settled for a second place finish. He was awarded a $6,000 check for his efforts, which marked his richest USMTS payday of his career.
