Jimmy Mars Sets Sights on Illini 100 Following Solid LaSalle Doubleheader

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team returned to Dirt Late Model competition over the March 29-30 weekend at the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois, as the 1/4-mile bullring played host to the two-day 'Thaw Brawl.' On Friday night, Jimmy Mars laid down the fastest lap in his group during the qualifying session and later took the win in his heat race. After starting the $2,000 to win UMP feature event from the outside of the second row, Jimmy moved up to third in the 30-lap affair to finish behind only winner Dennis Erb, Jr. and runner-up Austin Hubbard.

At LaSalle on Saturday evening, a $10,000 top prize was up for grabs in the 'Thaw Brawl' finale, which was sanctioned by the American Late Model Series (ALMS). Jimmy posted the fourth quickest lap in his group during time trials and later placed second in heat race action. The Menomonie, Wisconsin star then had a strong run in the 50-lapper, as he crossed underneath the checkers sixth behind only victor Brian Birkhofer, Chris Simpson, Brandon Sheppard, Billy Drake, and Austin Hubbard. Next up for the #28 team will be a trip to the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois on April 5-6 for the 5th Annual ‘Illini 100.’ The World of Outlaws Late Model Series will preside over the two-day showdown, which begins later tonight with qualifying and heat races. Consolation events and the 100-lap, $20,000 to win main event will then headline the weekend on Saturday evening.
