Bryan Barber Bags American Modified Series 2013 Opener at Smoky Mountain Speedway

Maryville, TN-April 13, 2013- The American Modified Series kicked off its 2013 racing season on Saturday evening with the tour’s first-ever visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN and 2011 series champion Bryan Barber of Greensburg, KY collected the $3,000 first place money at the 4/10 mile high-banked clay oval aboard his B&B Motorsports/All Star Performance/Frankland Racing Equipment sponsored #10 Bandit Race Car powered by a Jay (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)ens Race Engine.

Levi Kissinger parlayed his outside front-row starting position to take the race lead and would build a comfortable over second place Bryan Barber. However, disaster would strike for Kissinger as he started working slower traffic and the end result would be Kissinger making heavy contact with the outside retaining wall in turn one, bringing a red flag condition for the time being and ending Kissinger’s night. This turn of events would hand the race lead over to Bryan Barber, who would maintain the point for the remainder of the event and take the checked flag first in the 30 lap, $3,000 to win affair. Matt Cooper would take runner-up honors for the evening, while Derek Fisher would claim a third place finish. Tommy Bailey crossed the line in fourth, but was light at the post-race weigh-in, thus Joey Kramer would be credited with fourth, while Josh Ferguson would complete the top five.

The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Jeff Hamby, Jr., Matthew Hopper, Ricky Tinch, Rocky Wilson, and Shane Stockton. The 30 lap, $3,000 to win event would be slowed by only six caution periods (one resulting in a red flag) and take thirty-two minutes to complete.

In preliminary action, Bryan Barber would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among a stout field of 32 entries at 17.260 seconds. Heat race checkered flags fell to Bryan Barber, Joey Kramer, Levi Kissinger, and Trent Young. The B-Mains were captured by Tommy Bailey and Tyler Nicely. Series provisional starting spots went to Shon Flanary and Clayton Miller.

The next event for the open-wheel warriors of the American Modified Series will take place on Saturday April 27 at Cedar Ridge Speedway in Morgantown, KY. This event will be a $1,500 to win, $200 to start race.

The American Modified Series will present UMP Modified sanctioned dirt track sports entertainment at racing venues throughout Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and Tennessee.
