Used to slightly move the head so that the valves are closer to cylinder centerline. Not much effect.

The dowels must be used all the time. The offset dowels are used as said above, to move the valves towards the center of the cylinder. This helps to unshroud them a bit. It also requires thicker intake gaskets as you are moving the heads away from the intake.

i thought thay were used when heads were angle milled an intake side surface was milled back to correct angle to seal aganst intake manifold to bring head back up,..witch would center valves better,..but im probably wrong

    Buddy,
You don't need the offset dowels because of using studs. What you may be having problems with is if the heads are angle milled more than. 125 then you have to have the head bolt holes corrected and spot faced.Just guessing because I don't know what problem your having.

not having any problems just curious about the dowels, the heads I am using are not angle milled, this may be stupid but just curious if a man really needed the dowels when using the studs

I would use the dowels but you can get by without them.I had a repaired cast iron head once that I couldn't use the dowels.
