Chilton, Payne, Coffman, and Hounshell, Jr. Head Up Winners List at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY-August 2, 2013- It was Back to School Night for the children in attendance at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening, plus a full night of racing action took place in all divisions. Feature event winners for the evening included Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models, Jimmy Payne of Glasgow, KY in Bluegrass Drug Store Modifieds, Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY in Smith Automotive Machine Shop FASTRAK Late Models, and Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in D&D Pallet Recyclers Sportsman.

Dustin Neat would lead the opening lap of the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model main event only to spin in turn four after an early caution flag. Sixth starting Michael Chilton would roll to second on the first race restart and would inherit the lead and would stretch his lead to almost a half-straightaway advantage over David Webb and Victor Lee, who would battle for second, while Justin Rattliff and Jeff Watson would battle for the fourth position. Lee’s night would go soar after he suffered a flat right-front tire on a lap 20 restart, but would pit and return to action. The restart would see Chilton again pull away from the pack, while Webb, Watson, and Rattliff would battle for second. Chilton would score his first win of the season aboard the Central Painting/Chilton’s Lawn and Maintenance/FYS Race Products/Henson’s Auto Detail/Keyser Manufacturing/Pro-Trainers/Dial Painting sponsored #97 Revelution Chassis powered by a Competition Race Engine. Webb would finish second, while Rattliff would nip Watson at the finish for third, with Tommy Bailey completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Neat, Lee, Jerry Rutherford, Clarence Belcher, and Jake Henry. Sixteen entries would see Webb be the Bob Allen Motor Mall top qualifier at 13.374 seconds, while Country 100.9 MIKE FM heat race wins were scored by Webb and Neat.

Jimmy Payne would take the lead at the start of the Bluegrass Drug Store Modified feature contest and would survive a late race green/white/checkered restart scenario to pick up his fourth win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway behind the wheel of the Richard Harlow owned Maximum Energy Development/Diamond Auto Collision/Barren River Pest Control/Paintless Dent Repair/Young’s Barber Shop sponsored #K1 Bandit Race Car, Niebel Race Engines powered entry. Tommy Bailey would finish in second, with Tommy Bailey scoring a third place effort. Tommy Gregory would come home in fourth position, while Elliott Despain rounded out the top five. Completing the top ten would be Don Adams, Benji Lee, Rocky Wilson, Brent Denny, and Jeff Watson. Nineteen entries saw Payne as the Bob Allen Motor Mall top qualifier at 14.342 seconds, while Inter County Energy heat race victories fell to Payne, Despain, and Bailey.

Todd Coffman and Tyler Allen would have an exciting wheel-to-wheel battle over the final four laps of the Smith Automotive Machine Shop FASTRAK Late Model feature event, with Coffman prevailing in an exciting finish to score his eighth win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway in the seat of the Sharon Coffman owned Premier Self Storage/Auto Connection/The Muffler Shop/All Star Racewear/ Spears Construction/Coffman’s Photography/Archie’s Tire Center/Harrod Farms/Todd’s Body Shop/ Wilson Equipment/84 Lumber sponsored #35 Rocket Chassis, GM604 powered mount. Allen would settle for runner-up honors, while P.J. Feistritzer, Dusty Maybrier, and Gary Yeager completed the top five. Wesley Brummett would be the Bob Allen Motor Mall top qualifier among 8 entries with a 14.097 second lap, while Coffman also won the Colston Paving heat.

Glen Hounshell, Jr. would lead flag-to-flag in capturing the D&D Pallet Recyclers Sportsman main event behind the wheel of his Wayne Bowen Racing Supply/R&R Builders/Madison Windows/Lanham Scrap and Metal/Jennings Do It Best Home Center/V.C. Verlran’s Contracting/Central Kentucky Sheet Metal/Pecco/J’s Golf Carts sponsored #20 Chevy Camaro SS. Derek Bottoms would finish second, while Donnie Sullivan recovered from a mid-race tangle to finish third. Glen Branham and Johnny King completed the top five. Six entries would be lined by via the pill draw and Hounshell, Jr. would also win the Northside RV heat race.
