CARTERSVILLE, GA – With just five points separating the top two drivers in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division battle for the National Championship, point leader Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL and second-place Trey Bright of Coker, AL are ready to embark on Week 20 action with four races on the schedule.

NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 20 competition begins on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS with a race co-sanctioned by the Mississippi Street Stock Series that will pay $800-to-win.

On Saturday night, NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division races are scheduled for Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS and at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Spears leads the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 685 points. Spears will be netting on a 45 which means he will have to have a best finish this weekend of fifth or better to gain any points. Spears has the highest Weekly Point Average (WPA) among the Top 20 in the point standings at 48.93.

Bright has a best 14 week total of 680 points and he will be trying to net on a 43 which means he will have to have a best finish this weekend of seventh or better to gain any points. Bright has the second highest WPA among the Top 20 in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings at 48.51.

Wayne Medders of Morton, MS is third in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 626 points, and he will be trying to net on a 41 which means he has to have a best finish this weekend of ninth or better to gain any points. Medders has the seventh highest WPA at 44.36.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS is fourth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 623 points and he will be trying to net on a 41. Leftwich has the ninth highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division points chase at 44.14.

Dave Nations of Raymond, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 609 points, and he has one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14 week mark of the season. With a 50-point win in Week 20 competition, Nations, who has the sixth highest WPA at 46.85, could climb into the third spot of the point standings.

Chad Hiers of Ocean Springs, MS is sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 601 points, and will be trying to net on a 35. Charles Coan of Danville, AL is seventh in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 588, and he will be trying to net on a 41.

Calvin Cook of Pace, FL is 13th in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 484 points, but he has the third highest WPA among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 48.4. Cook has four more weeks to earn full points, so look for him to climb into the Top 10 of the point standings in the coming weeks.

Rocky DeGruy of Denham Springs, LA climbed into the Top 20 of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings for the first time after last week’s action, and settled into the 19th spot with 392 points. DeGruy has the tenth highest WPA at 43.55 and still has five more weeks to earn full points.

Adam Cheeks of Guntown, MS is 20th in the standings, but his points earning clock is beginning to tick towards midnight. Cheeks has 377 points and has the fifth highest WPA at 47.12, but he has six weeks in the eight weeks left in the 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season to earn points. That doesn’t give him much time to net on his lowest weekly point totals.

Drivers that race at NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. A perfect 14-week point score is 700 which represents 14 50-point wins.

Once a driver reaches the 14th week of competition they begin netting points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher weekly point total. The 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.

The Weekly Point Average, or WPA, is a driver’s season point total divided by 14, or the number of weeks they have competed in NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition up to the 14th week. A perfect WPA is 50.

A win with a car count of eight or more is worth 50 points and drops one point per position back to tenth spot. Drivers that finish tenth through field in the main event earn 41 points. Drivers that attempt to compete, but fail to start the main event earn 25 points. A win with a car count of less than eight is worth 40 points and drops back one point per position.
