Volunteer Speedway hosts $5,000-to-win Steel Head Late Model Championship on Friday, Aug. 16

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — Volunteer Speedway will host the inaugural $5,000-to-win Steel Head Late Model Championship presented by Vic Hill Racing on Friday, Aug. 16.

Also racing will be the Modified Hobby and Mini Stock divisions.

Steel Head Late Model entries 362 cubic inch maximum (steel block and steel heads – no 14 degree cylinder heads allowed, only 23 degree cylinder heads and angle milling permitted); Front tires-open; Hoosier 1600 or American Racer 56 rear tires and must punch 55 with tire durometer; 2,350 lb. minimum weight; 8-inch high rear spoiler; one pound per lap burn-off for feature event.

Crate Late Model entries must utilize sealed GM, Fastrak or NeSmith crate-engines, with open tires on both front and rear; 2,250 lb. minimum weight; 8-inch high rear spoiler; one pound per lap burn-off for feature event.

Gas only, no alcohol or nitrous permitted.

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series/Southern All Star Racing Series body rules apply.

The top 16 cars will be locked into the 24-car main from qualifying. Last chance heat races will fill the remaining eight spots in the starting field.

As a bonus, the top-three Crate Late Models in the field will divide $600. The highest finishing Crate Late Model will receive $300, with the second-highest finishing CLM receiving $200, and the third-highest CLM claiming $100.

No entry fee will be charged for this event.

Steel Head Late Model Championship purse on Friday, Aug. 16: 1) $5,000, 2) $2,500, 3) $1,200, 4) $1,000, 5) $800, 6) $650, 7) $550, 8) $450, 9) $350, 10) $300, 11-24 $250 to start.

Adult grandstand admission on Friday, Aug. 16 is $20, seniors (age 55 and above) $18, youth (ages 11-15) $5, with kids 10-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $35, regardless of age.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. with the grandstands opening at 6 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 7:15 p.m., with practice laps set to begin around 8 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and then green flag racing.

No coolers or outside food allowed to be brought into the front straightaway (main) grandstand! Coolers are permitted in the pit area and the backstretch tier-parking – however no glass containers allowed.

Directions to Volunteer Speedway: South on Interstate 81 from Tennessee/Virginia state lines, take Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville), then turn right onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Look for track entrance approximately 200 yards on left.

North on Interstate 81 from I-81/I-40 split (East of Knoxville, TN), take Exit 23, then turn left onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Continue underneath the interstate over-pass and track entrance approximately 300 yards ahead on left.
