Default how much duration @.050 is needed to make power up to 8k on a ford 2.3

been looking at camshafts and wondering if anyone would have some knowledge on this. i see lots cam makers say there cams are good to 7800 with only 240degrees at .050 then some say 270 so will both get there and if so what would be the benefits from one to the other? thanks jared

To make peak power up around 8,000rpm with a ported factory iron head, you will need to have a duration of roughly 295 @ .050".

Most of the time, you'll see guys turning 8,500rpm, they are running cams in the neighborhood of 265-270 @ .050" and making peak power between 7,200-7,600rpm. That just accelerate off the corners by stabbing more gear in the car, but that requires turning more rpm.

A cam with only 240 @ .050" will likely make peak power in the 6000 rpm range.

My Cam has 274 intake and 264 exhaust at .050 it seems to run strong with that well into the high 7s to about 8. cam timing at .016 is 310/300. This is a solid roller with strapped cam towers.
