CARTERSVILLE, GA – According to NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point leader Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS, Week 23 is just another week of racing. Now that’s an understatement for a man on the verge of winning $10,000! But that’s Noah being Noah. Yes, the “Iceman” hath cometh.

Only one driver can challenge Daspit for the $10,000 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series National Championship and that’s Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, who is second in the standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points.

There are two scenarios that will decide the championship this week, and one scenario that will keep the title hunt going for at least one more week.

A 50-point win in Week 23 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition by Daspit, or if Dudley fails to win a Week 23 50-point race, that seals the deal for Daspit and he is the Champion. If Daspit fails to post a win this week, and Dudley does win, we go on to Week 24.

There will be seven races over three days making up the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 23 schedule of events. Daspit will no doubt be at his home tracks, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park on Friday night and St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA on Saturday night, where they will have a $1,000-to-win main event.

Daspit is a very reserved person when he’s out of the race car and doesn’t say much, or show a lot of emotion. But when he steps into the race car, Daspit speaks very loudly with his right foot. Of his 13 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series wins this season, five of them have come at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, and seven of them have come at St. Tammany Raceway.

With five weeks left in the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, Daspit has a best 14 week total of 698 points, or two points away from a perfect score of 700. No driver in the eight-year history of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series has earned a perfect score. Daspit has to net on two 49s to get it done.

Daspit may have a good reason to be relaxed while being on the threshold of winner the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series title because Dudley has a near-impossible task ahead of him to take it away.

Dudley has to win a 50-point race in each of the remaining five weeks of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series which would give him a possible 699 points. Daspit has to go without a win in those five weeks, as well. Now Dudley has shown he can win on a regular basis, as he has nine wins this season, with eight of those being 50-point wins.

Eight of Dudley’s nine wins have come at his home track, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, so one might think that five more might be a doable deal. The problem is, East Alabama Motor Speedway will not have any more NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series sanctioned races this season.

Dudley is going to have to hit the road, perhaps traveling to Hattiesburg, MS and Lacombe, LA to take Daspit on one-on-one. The problem is, Dudley says he is a low-budget race team, and doesn’t have the funds to make that trip. An option for Dudley could be to go to Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night where he picked up his ninth win of the season last week.

Other Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Saturday night events will be held at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, and Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will be hosting a $1,000-to-win race. Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will also be having a $1,000-to-win race on Sunday night.

Behind Daspit and Dudley, there is still a lot to be decided in the five remaining weeks of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, as drivers battle for the Top 10 spots in the point standings to collect a check out of the point fund at the series’ Awards Banquet in January at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 683 points, and he will be trying to net on a 48 in Week 23 competition. Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS is fourth with a best 14 week total of 682 points and will be trying to net on a 41.

Robby Moore of Brosley, MO is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 668 points and will be trying to net on a 46. Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 667 points, and will be trying to net on a 42.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 666 points, and he will be trying to net on a 45 in Week 23 competition. Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is eighth with a best 14 week total of 661 points, and will be trying to net on a 41.

Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN is ninth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 660 points, and will be trying to net on a 41. Roger Witt of Batesville, AR rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 645 points, and will be trying to net on a 41.

There are three drivers in the second ten of the point standings that have a good opportunity to advance up into the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings in Week 23 competition.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS is 14th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a 14 week total of 637 points, but has a 25 to net on. Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL is 15th in the standings with a best 14 week total of 633, and he also can net on a 25. Ricky Waggoner of Martin, TN is 20th in the standings with 606 points, and he has one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14 week of his season.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 29. Drivers can compete in as many events available to then each week, only their best event point total for that week will count.

Once a driver reaches the 14-week point in their NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, they will begin to net points, by trying to replace the lowest weekly point total with a higher one. The Weekly Point Average is the average of their 14-week total, or up to the 14-week mark. A perfect point total is 700, and a perfect WPA is 50.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
