    Default NO forward bite

    MasterSbilt Smackdown
    604 Crate motor
    Left 53.8%
    Rear 53.8%
    LR Bite 65
    4-bars all in neutral positions (middle holes) except we go down on the bottom left bar when it gets slick.
    J-bar at 8” on frame and one click up from bottom on pinion
    350 5th coil at 31”
    Springs LF 450 RF 350 LR 200 RR 225
    Car gets up on bars very well and stays there now that we added a blow-up shock in front of LR but just doesn’t have ANY forward traction when the track gets very slick. Doesn’t seem to matter how easy the throttle is applied. Tires just spin.
    Car is not loose on exit and doesn't seem too tight on entry as it rotates fine though the center. Have tried backing up entry and keeping car straighter. Have tried charging corner to get car rotated and pointed down the the straight. Nothing seems to help.

    why do you the 5th arm at 31'' ?

    I set up a 07 Masters Smackdown for a guy. He runs the lift bar at 36" and the right front spring is a 400, left rear spring is a 160, 16" barrel. Rear percentage is 54.8 to 55%. All other stuff is the same pretty much. It wins that way on dry slick to slightly tacky, won a feature last night. We couldnt get drive off with a weaker right front spring, less than 400, or a shorter lift bar. JMHO

    We have tried moving the 5th coil out but every time we do the car picks up an on-throttle push and seems to not hook up the rear end as well. With that said, the rear end won't hook up at all right now when the track is slick.

    To far back can be just as bad it provides to much instant traction and can buzz the tires

    A throttle push is hooking up the rear tires. They are over powering the fronts. With the setting that creates the throttle push, you may need to adjust left side bars to get more roll steer.

    We had this same problem and didn't figure it out till we put the open motor back in the car... with crate motor your 5th arm spring is tooo stiff... put it at 36" and put a 275 spring in it

    Like Jesel45 said WAY to stiff 250 or 275 at 35 or 36" will be fine Id start 250 and check for travel. You don't have to power to compress a 350

    I had a lot of success with a smack crate car but never ran that soft of LR spring - we always started with a 250 LR crate cars need a little more LR spring than a open engine car. LR spring option on the smack down crate cars often need to opposite of a open engine car - you may want to stiffen the spring to add traction...

    That will keep the car from getting on the bars most crates are on 175 to 200 LRs The LR behind doesn't load the LR via the spring it loads with the thrust angle derived from the bars and the softer spring helps it get up quicker. You have to keep the car free balance wise more to the looser side but still maintain maximum forward drive. Your 5th arm control your balance of traction.

    First I agree with 7up that a stiffer left rear will do nothing. Second a throttle push IS forward bite that is not being applied correctly to the chassis, one rear wheel is over driving the other.
