Default NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 25 Preview

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Going into Week 25 of the 27-week NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season, point leader Trey Bright of Coker, AL takes a three-point lead over Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL into the Championship battle. Bright could wrap up the title this week, as a big question mark looms over Spears, the only driver with a chance to knock Bright off the top of the mountain.

There will be four races on the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 25 schedule that begins on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS. Saturday night races are scheduled for Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Bright has a best 14 week total of 693 points, and he will be looking to net on a 48, which means he has to win or finish second in his best finish of the week to gain any points. If Bright comes out of NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 25 competition with a four-point lead, he will clinch the Championship.

Spears has a best 14 week total of 690 points and will also be trying to net on a 48, if he races. That has been the big question since Monday when Spears announced on his Facebook page that he was having engine trouble and didn’t have the funds to make the proper repairs. Spears said his season was over.

Then on Wednesday, the third-place driver in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings, Calvin Cook of Pace, FL wrote on Spears’ Facebook page that he would be on vacation this week, and he had an engine Spears could use to finish the last three weeks of the season. All he had to do was travel to Cook’s Florida Panhandle shop and pick it up.

When Spears’ Team was asked today if he had picked up the engine, his wife Ashley replied that he couldn’t get off work to make the trip. The next question was, “Is Kevin going to race this weekend?” The Spears camp must be keeping their options close to the vest, as there was no reply.

Cook will sit on his third-place best 14 week total of 674 points, and if he returns to action before the season is completed on September 29, he will be trying to net on a 46. Roger Flynn of Denham Springs, LA is fourth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 662. Flynn will be trying to net on a 41.

Dave Nations of Raymond, MS is fifth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 650 points, and he will be trying to net on a 41. Adam Cheeks of Guntown, MS continues to climb up the standings in the closing weeks of the season, and is sixth with a best 14 week total of 649 points. Cheeks will be trying to net on a 41.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS is seventh in the standings with a best 14 week total of 632 points and he will be trying to net on a 43 in NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 25 action. Eddie Willis of Saucier, MS is eighth with a best 14 week total of 627 points and will be trying to net on a 41.

Wayne Medders of Morton, MS is ninth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 626 points and will be trying to net on a 41. Chad Hiers of Ocean Springs, MS rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 607 points and will be trying to net on a 38.

There are five drivers in the second ten of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings that could hop right into one of the Top 10 points-fund paying spots with a 50-point win in Week 25 competition.

Jeffrey Walker of Meridian, MS is 11th in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 605 points, and he will be trying to net on a 25. The next three drivers in the standings still have one more week to earn full points.

Mark Barnett of Aberdeen, MS is 12th with 602 points, Jeremy Flurry of Smithville, MS is 13th with 593 points, and Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS is 14th with 589 points. Even though he is 20th with 564 points, Michael Williams of Saucier, MS could make a big move with one more week to earn full NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division points.

Drivers that race at NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. A perfect 14-week point score is 700 which represents 14 50-point wins.

Once a driver reaches the 14th week of competition they begin netting points by replacing the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher weekly point total. The 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.

A win with a car count of eight or more is worth 50 points and drops one point per position back to tenth spot. Drivers that finish tenth through field in the main event earn 41 points. Drivers that attempt to compete, but fail to start the main event earn 25 points. A win with a car count of less than eight is worth 40 points and drops back one point per position.
