Default CHRIS MADDEN SMOKES THE FIELD AT THE GEORGIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS w/ ULTIMATE SUPERS

CHRIS MADDEN SMOKES THE FIELD AT THE GEORGIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
25 Ultimate Supers signed in for action at the Georgia State Championships in Lavonia GA. Hot laps saw the track take a lot of rubber and began to black over which set up the night for multi groove racing. Cool temps met the teams as they took the track for VP Race Fuels Race for the Pole with a $100 bonus to the top qualifier from LightninFast.com .
Jeff Smith set the early fast time with a 17.289. Smith held the point till Casey Roberts took to the track and lowered quick time to 17.023. Roberts had fingers crossed as driver after driver took a stab, but when Chris “Smokey” Madden rolled onto the speedway the fast time was lowered yet again. Madden clicked the timing lights with a 16.797. The only Driver in the 16’s ! Madden picked up the LightninFast.com bonus for the VP Race Fuels Race for the Pole.
Due to a delay in the program, heat races were scrapped and we went straight to mains with all 25 entrants taking the green. Madden chose to put his Bloomquist chassis on the outside of row 1 moving Casey Roberts and his Capitol chassis to the inside. After a 4 wide salute to the fans and fireworks as the field rolled by in formation, the drivers and teams were ready for action.
The green flew and Madden roared into turn one on the top side. With a slight advantage, Madden squeezed in front of Roberts with Riley Hickman and Dillon Wood in tow. Madden was able to pull a couple of car lengths at the same time Roberts was separating himself from 3rd place Hickman. Lap 11, Hickman spun in turn 4, the field somehow avoided the spinning Chattanooga, TN driver. The field reformed and went back to green. Hickman brought the crowd to their feet as he went high and low making up 7 positions in 2 laps. The field was slowed again at lap when the James Roulette mount dropped some fluid on the Lavonia red clay.
The field retook the green with Madden continuing to move out front and hold a couple of car length advantage. Roberts and Dillon Woods heated up there battle only to be slowed at lap 21 when Rookie of the year leader Larry Timms dropped the driveshaft out. The teams went back green and Roberts and Wood went at it again with Wood pinching Roberts to the very bottom of the speedway. Roberts showed a lot of muscle and fought back. Roberts and Woods made some contact as the two battled for position. Roberts worked the inside and maintained the second position. Woods settled to third and Mt Holly NC driver Chris Ferguson began to pressure Woods. Ferguson was also pressured by Jeff Smith but all drivers maintained their positions for the remainder of the race as we went green the rest of the way.
Chris Madden took the win, followed by point’s leader Casey Roberts with Dillon Woods hanging on to third. A full field rundown is listed below. In victory land interviews, Madden said “the start was the key, I was able to get in front of Casey and it was clear track ahead. My team gave me a great car tonight.” Madden also thanked the fans for all their support on a longer than normal night. Madden became the only multi-time winner this season in ULTIMATE competition other the 6 time winner Casey Roberts and moved Madden to second in career Ultimate wins with 5 behind Roberts 9 wins.
