They ran them there back when they where MMA Modifieds so it's possible. From what I heard it will be the same divisions as they run at Shadyhill Speedway: UMP Modifieds, UMP Stock Cars/ Street Stock, I-Modifieds, Pure Streets (V8), 4 Cylinders.

How far apart are Shadyhill and Kamp just wondering about car counts. Glad that we are gaining (reopening) a track instead of losing another one. Good luck and hope to make some trips over next season.

Probably close to about 55-60 miles apart.

[/Yeah it was called Boswell and Henry's Speedway at one time. I agree the KAMP name needs to go. Especially since their not associated with the track any more. Would love to see a couple of late model and sprint shows there if Michael decide to have 1 or a few of each. Hope the car counts are decent there in 2014 when they open.

As far as the I-Mod's are concerned, it all depends on what Roy Mitchell (I-Mod director) and the drivers want to do. He's good at listening to when and where they should run. The class they ran at Kamp were called Mini Mods.

Back in the day, it was called Henry's Speedway, from owner Avery Henry.. Then it was paved in the mid 70's to maybe early 80's and called Chase Raceway, the the pavement was replaced with dirt and then called Benton County Thunderbowl, and also re shaped, and then Kamp.. When it was Henry's, they had a 3 track thing called, ICRC, for the Illiana Clay Racing Club..which was Henry's, Rensselaer Raceway, and Broadway Speedway, when it was a paved track, a lot of the guy's from the Chicagoland area raced there, and they even hosted ASA races there, American Speed Assocation, when it was real ASA Racing.. Real glad to see this track come back ! I will make it a point to go back, and relive a lot of memorys ! :-)

A poster somewhere else suggested that this track was located in both dirt late model territory and in open wheel territory. Hopefully they can run a good healthy mix of late models, sprint cars and midgets since fan base concentrations of all three are nearby.

Somewhat like Haubstadt that hosts an Indiana Sprint Week date and is a MSCS and KISS venue along with quality dirt late model action, as well.

Doesn't matter what ya' like to watch race, whenever a track comes back to life it's a good thing for sure.

When Henry's was part of the ICRC, the ICRC included Kankakee, Henry's and Rensselaer. When they paved the Henry's, Broadway (Crown Point) took the Saturday night spot in the ICRC. I think that was '77.

CIRF, Boswell is an outstanding sprint car track. The Indiana Sprint Week events at Kamp were often standing room only. The 2009 event had an excellent 3 car battle for the win.

Kamp Motor Speedway was a two time UMP Track Of The Year award winner.

I wish they would run LM weekly but I don't see that happening. With the SN drawing the top racers from the area an additional two weekends plus the expanded ALMS schedule, and all the other specials in the area drawing the top area racers (and their fans), weekly SLM racing is a tough proposition for a promoter.

LM or not, I'll be there opening night!

Pops, I think you're right about the weekly dirt late model deal. Unfortunately, I think a weekly sprint car schedule might be a stretch, as well. Just not enough cars and good, solid venue's running both types of cars nearby.

But as has been mentioned above, anything is possible and if they pay well and get the crowds. I know whatever the new owners choose to race we'll be there.

Kamps had some of the best races anywhere, but just couldn't put enough butts in the seats on weekly races..

    Default Sprints and Lates

Danville and Farmer City ran both class a few nights during the season with some talk of adding more dates in the future. Don't know that would have any effect in Indiana area though.
