Default proper fan to radiator distance

How far from the radiator should the fan be with using a shroud. Thanks

    1-2" should be fine.

According to Dale McDowell at the driving school, 5/8 to 3/4 was the magic number.

I was told early on 3/4 to 1'' max and keep the shroud as tight to the fan as possible.

oh im sorry, I read it as he was not using a shroud, if you have a good shroud with the fan tight to the opening, and half in half out, then the distance is not so critical as long as it is sealed to the rad very well. but what I try to do is use a 1 inch spacer on the pump for a bit of clearance to the engine so I can put a piece of lexan between the fan and from of the engine, it helps keep the dirt from pelting the front of the carb and keeps the hot radiator air off of it as well. I just hang the air dam off the cross over bar that bolts in and wedge the bottom somewhat behind the water pump so it doesnt move around.
