    Default Valve Spring preasure recommendations.

I just bought a head and it has a 528/538 solid lifter flat tappet cam in it. what seat preasure should i be looking for in springs? Does 120 ish sound right? I looked up the info for the cam and it's a Race Engineering cam but no recommendations on springs. Also who sells the best springs?

Forgot to add that this is for a 2.3 Ford.

Crane 99884 is a good little spring for that installed at 1.550. That's around 127 or 28 on the seat.

I would shoot for 110 pounds at seat. That should be safe to 8000 rpms I think. 120 is a little much Iwould think. I've run as low as 100 with a cam close to that size up to 8300 rpms. The more pressure from your springs the more horsepower your killing. I get springs from crower most of the time.

Thanks for the info so far! One thing I am wondering also is, what can we use to test seat pressure on the 2.3 ohc? I see a lot of pressure testers but they don't appear to be usable on an over head cam set up.

If, That cam and rockers have been run together, previously broken in, 130 on the seat is good. I get most of my springs from Howards or Schneider. 110is not enought pressure for that cam, It has a pretty aggressive lobe. I still set up heads at 130-145 on the seat, and flat tappet,Hyd. or solid.,Joe

PAC beehive spring. I've used them for years on my paved oval engines. Have never failed one. And PAC will nitride them, which adds life. www.RacingSprings.com . -Dave-
