Jeep Van Wormer Starts 2014 Campaign with Strong Seventh Place Outing at Brownstown

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and his #55 Iron Motorsports team kicked off their 2014 racing season on Saturday evening, March 22 at the legendary Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series once again presided over the 17th edition of the 'Indiana Icebreaker' and 45 competitors piled into the pit area for the $10,000 to win showdown at the 1/4-mile fairgrounds oval. Jeep started off his night by clicking off the third quickest lap in Group B during qualifying prior to placing second in his heat race behind only prelim victor Scott Bloomquist.

In front of a huge standing-room-only crowd, Jeep started the 50-lap main event from the outside of the third row. The Pinconning, Michigan star quickly vaulted up to third in the opening laps by utilizing the top groove of the famed speedplant. Jeep eventually lost a few spots during the remainder of the caution-free affair, but was still able to record a strong seventh place performance in his 2014 season lid lifter. Complete results from the 'Indiana Icebreaker' can be found online at www.lucasdirt.com.

“It was a good run for us at Brownstown to start out our season,” quoted Van Wormer earlier this week. “We haven’t raced there the past few years, so it was good to get back to a place that I really enjoy. The car was great all night long and I thought I had something for them early in the feature. I used the outside groove to get up to third in the first few laps, but that bottom was just too good all night long. I have to thank all of my sponsors for their continued support heading into the new season and especially one of my newest sponsors Knochel Oil Company.”

Next up for the #55 team will be a trip to the Land of Lincoln on March 28-29. The LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois will play host to a pair of special events this upcoming weekend, which will make up the 3rd Annual ‘Thaw Brawl.’ A $2,000 top prize has been established for Friday’s 35-lap feature event, while Saturday’s 75-lapper boasts a hefty $15,000 winner’s check. Each program will be sanctioned by both the American Late Model Series (ALMS) and UMP DIRTcar Series.
