I bought a older used Tilton clutch setup for my 2.3 Ford. The ring gear has been re welded and looked pretty straight. I didn't check run out on the ring gear when I changed the flywheel and the starter is very grindy sounding and will kick out when I try and start it. It reminds me of the time I tried to put a Ranger starter on my escort setup. The starter on it is the same one I used on the Escort flywheel, a stock 2.3 1979 mustang starter.
Question 1. Could the flywheel I put on, the Tilton unit, be a different tooth count than my escort flywheel?
Question 2. Has anyone used this Tilton flywheel and what starter did you use?
