Jeep Van Wormer and Iron Motorsports Plan Weekend Visits to Attica and Florence

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and his #55 team rolled into the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday evening, April 12 for the UMP DIRTcar 'Spring Nationals.' Jeep clicked off the sixth fastest lap during the qualifying session and later placed second in heat race action behind only prelim victor Dona Marcoullier.

The Pinconning, Michigan ace then set his sights on his first win of the year in the $5,000 to win feature event. During the 25-lap sprint, Jeep raced hard inside of the top five before unfortunately falling victim to a crash. He was not able to finish the 'Spring Nationals' due to cosmetic damage on his Rocket racecar and was relegated to a thirteenth place performance at the 1/2-mile clay oval. Full results from the "Big E" can be viewed by pointing your web browser to www.eldoraspeedway.com.

“We had a little bit of an unfortunate racing incident during the feature at Eldora, but I feel like we had a good car and learned some stuff that should translate later in the year at the bigger races,” commented Van Wormer while working in Maine earlier this week. “The wreck didn’t do a lot to the car other than cosmetic damage, so Joe (Drake) and everyone at the shop will get it back together for this weekend at Attica and Florence. I would like to formally welcome Joe back as crew chief and I am excited to go back racing with him this year. We have had a lot of success together through the years and he is a great asset to have at the track and in the shop!”

Jeep and the Iron Motorsports team, weather pending, are eying a pair of weekend events on April 18-19 in the states of Ohio and Kentucky. On Friday night, the Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio is scheduled to play host to the American Late Model Series (ALMS) and a $2,000 top prize will be on the line. The venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky will then take center stage on Saturday evening, as the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals tour rolls into the Cincinnati-area speedplant to preside over the 38th Annual ‘Spring 50.’ Jeep was the 2009 victor of the ‘Spring 50’ and will be looking to add a second race title to his resume and an extra $5,000 to his bank account on Saturday. Due to work commitments keeping Jeep Van Wormer in Maine for longer than expected this week, the #55 team will be unable to make the voyage to Attica and Florence as planned this weekend.
