    Boyd Speedway Results
    4-26-2014
(Chattanooga, Ringgold, Ga) The weather was absolutely perfect for a Saturday night of dirt racing around the famed 1/3 mile clay oval of Boyd Speedway. A great crowd had found its way there and was ready for some dirt slinging action. With the heats out of the way we settled in for the night’s first Feature Event which brought the FWD/PONY Division racers to the front stretch. But before we turned them loose Track Co-Owner Dale McDowell took this time to shoot several t-shirts high into the crowd. The fans were treated to some pretty good skills as the fans struggled to obtain one of the many shirts given away. With the FWD/PONY’s ready to run and the #T11 EJ Bailey leading the way but it didn’t take long for Dalton’s Bruce Kimber to take over the top spot. As Kimber and Bailey battled for the top spot Powell TN’s Michael Courtney was close behind. A lap 4 caution slowed the field for a spin in turn 2, once the field was doubled back up for their double file restart Kimber was now hearing the machine of Courtney on his rear bumper. Another caution on lap 8 for debris would set up a 7 lap shootout; Kimber would go on and hold off a hard charging Courtney followed by James Dykes (coming from the rear) EJ Bailey and Keith Hackney.

The B-Hobby “Heavy Weights were up next, with Chattanooga’s #45 Dallas Brooks and Red Bank’s #XXX Jimmy Smith leading the field to the green from the front row. The race was slowed on lap 1 for debris another quick caution flew once again on lap 3 with Jeff Irvin spinning in turn 2 collecting Ronnie Kerr as well. Jimmy Smith and Dallas Brooks was entertaining the crowd with a fierce battle between cautions. Another caution on lap 6 with #T11 driven by Jason Tate would lose a wheel while running third ending his night. As the laps clicked off Smith held a close lead over Brooks until a late lap 14 pass on the white flag lap and Brooks would hold off the late challenge of Smith and take his 4th victory of the year. Following Brooks and Smith across the line would be Jim Gilbert #19, Bill Pate #96 and Steve Tate #T11.

Before the A-Hobby Feature Dale McDowell would entertain the crowd with his shirt shooting apparatus from the front stretch sending the kids scrambling for another t-shirt. Once the smoke had settled the A-Hobbies were ready to go and Chattanooga’s Booker Brooks and Rossville’s BJ Wilson would lead the field to the green flag. A race that would be slowed 7 times for cautions would see the #48 of Booger Brooks lead every lap to take yet another Boyd Speedway victory. Wilson would finish second followed by Josh Beagan, John Clark and Jeff Allen.

Crate Late Model would bring their finely tuned machines to the dirt surface to compete in the 25 lapper. With Chatsworth, Georgia’s Jeff Smith hot off of a victory last week would bring the field around from the pole position. A lap 1 caution for a spinning Justin Owens would refile the field for yet another start. A lap 2 caution for a pair of front runner in 2nd place Jerry Coffman and 3rd place Kenny Kizzar would make heavy contact in turn 4. Coffman had heavy frontend damage to his #30 machine, but not enough that he couldn’t get back up to the door of Kizzar while under caution to share his personal displeasures. Coffman had to retire his ride due to the damage as the field went back to green. Another lap 6 caution for #D2 David Duplissey would slow the field once again. Smith would continue to show the way but a fierce battle was brewing behind with #23 Craig Burrows and Kizzar. Burrows would make the pass for good going on to capture a second place finish behind Smith. The driver of the #D2 David Duplissey came back strong after the early spin showing the way around the top. Rounding out the top 5 would be #157 Kenny Kizzar, #T22 David Tinker and #72 Blake Shapiro.

But the best was saved for last as the Steel Headed Monster rolled to the front stretch. Ringgold’s Brannon Armatige alongside long time racing champion Rex Richey would bring the field to the green. Armatige would take the early lead followed by fellow Ringgold racer #T22 Mike Tinker. Tinker would make the pass for the lead on lap 8 using the high side of the racing surface while Armatige protected the bottom groove. A race which was slowed only once for a lap 1 caution would see a fierce late race battle between Tinker and Jamie Perry. The last 5 laps would see Tinker lead in turn 1 and 2 then Perry make the swap over move in 3 and 4 for the lead. The two would battle back and forth the final five laps only to see Perry cross the checkered flag first ahead of Tinker, Rick Hixson, Brannon Aramtige and Rex Richey.

Another great night of racing, fans was treaded to some great weather, food and t-shirt giveaways the entire evening. Next week gate open at 4:30 with racing getting underway at 7:00

Glad you enjoyed the change and we hope the fans want to hear from their favorite driver, but it wasn't Big Steve, he doesn't work for Boyd Speedway

So they tell me it takes 50 thousand dollars worth of equipment to win the thousand at Boyds. It was good racing but how do they ever making money if it costs that much to race ? The P4 has one of those cars and wins except if the R1 comes then if the 5 car comes he wins is this always how it is?
