    Default 602 problems

I am running a 602 that is new (maybe 10 nights) I feel like I am under powered big time. I run 92 pump gas from Conoco, 73 jets in the carb, 6.5lbs fuel pressure, 34 degrees timing. The motor runs very good and the car handles good just don't have speed. I run a USRA B-Mod. I am thinking of switching to e85 to get more power out of it. Or is there a better fuel that I can be running with my gas carb. Thanks in advance for any information.

Look at some of the oxygenated fuel VP has . vp113 is a good start. Also I believe there is a valve spring upgrade that might help ad well. Is the engine a blueprinted 602? If not there are significant gains when purchasing a fully blueprinted crate from any of the top builders

There is no legal upgrade for springs on the 602 if your running a series that follows the GM manual and the 602 springs weren't much of an issue. And I don't know about the 602 but with the 604 any good crate engine builder will tell you the gains having them blueprinted are minimal unless you have a real turd!

I responded to your e mail this morning -----but I will throw it out here as well

you told me the engine runs fine and the car handles good just no speed.........

many many many guys gear bind these 602's and then it will not make "speed"

the 602 is a truck engine making gobbs of low end torque-----use that and see if it goes faster

I am not saying that your engine is up to snuff or it can't be better----but gear bound engines is a very common problem

try taking some gear out (numerically lower)

Brad is right on, you want to gear it so you are just below the rev limit on the straights. If you hit the rev limit you have reached your maximum speed so you are losing speed to others that are still accelerating. Also you wont find much speed with the fancy fuels especially if you say it runs good. E85 would be a good option, call John at JDR Performance 636-262-7924 and get a carb setup for E85 you will be very happy with his work and tech support.

X2 on JDR. He is great to work with and knows how to match the fuel curve demands for these motors.
