    Default Tight/loose condition

How can you tell if your car is really loose or if the problem is actually a tight/loose condition? Or if it is acting loose because of not stay up on bars enough?

if its loose no matter what ya do as soon as you breath on the throttle on entry it will want to spin. if you have to "make" the car rotate to get thru the corner you are breaking traction on the rear tires and more that likely you will be trying to catch the tail on exit.

I guess I need to buy a camera and/or focus more on what really is happening during entering corner. I think my main problem of trying to determine what's happening is reaction just takes over and I don't really notice. Thanks for the replies.

Best way of telling is if you're having to kick the brake to get it to turn. On dry slick using stay brake pressure is important and almost necessary so if you notice yourself having to stab the brakes at any point to get the ass end out, chances are you're too tight. A well balanced dirt car will want to slide the rear end slightly as soon as you lift off the throttle slightly, and then straighten back up as soon as you reapply throttle.

Thanks. I just lowered LR bite and also raised RR upper bar. I had made some changes at track and only had 12 degrees in upper bar; usually have between 15.5 and 16.5 degrees. Hopefully this all will help.

In my opinion increasing lr bite would help a tight in loose off problem

Increasing bite really helped my car getting into the corner and that inturn helped exit.. i caught myself stabbing the brakes to help get it to turn, once i increased bite, now its just steady braking into the corner till the car is rotating on its own, without having to jump on them hard at any one point.. also, my cars is 4-bar LR, spring behind, shock in front, 4-bar RR, coilover setup in front.. something else that helped was getting my front end geomentry set up correct and not just "eye balling" it...

I should have been more detailed. Put a piece of contrasting tape on the top center of your steering wheel. It will give you a visual reference point so you know where the steering wheel is left or right. I'll see if I can post a link of my in car from this last Sunday.

You can see the yellow tape on my steering wheel. With this camera angle you can see me and the track for the most part. The tape doesn't lie.

Why are we talking about me? I ran my race. I don't give a crap about the guy who checked out "2011 National Champion" or another National champ "2009" and last years runner up to the national championship that finished behind me. I posted the video as an example to show how a camera and a piece of tape can be used as another tool to help with setup.

Didn't mean to get an argument started. This is why I hesitate to get on here for advice. Thanks MM90, will consider the camera deal. Found some other things not right or bent/broken. Gone to fix and see if setup still gives me problems.

I've been up there, just don't prefer it. I was watching the sprints before me running around the bottom so I figured it was fairly fast.

Jeff,I honestly think that is a really good point that especially in a mod if the top line is fast you have to get up there and go with it. Trevor prefers to run the low line, but he has realized this year that you have to get up there and go with it because these cars can carry so much speed on the top when there is a line up there.
