2.3 ford Oil Galley Plug ?

Where in the block does the oil galley plug that has the long tapered shaft go?

Is it necessary to run this style, all my other blocks have regular short plugs in front and back of block.

The ones I have seen were in the front of the engine in the main gallery. I throw them away when I find one.
