If your talking about a Ranger 2000, they are the same except the bore is smaller on the 2000. Can not be bored to 2.3 size. All else will interchange.

If you are talking about the old 2000cc Pinto engine, they were great little engines. I think that is how Esslinger got their start with the old "Pinto Beans" car. Parts are not as readily available like the 2.3. I don't see them as much now but they were used in a lot of different applications other than Ministocks like sand rails, drag racing, road coarse racing, boat racing etc. They are still being used in Europe. I think there are more parts overseas for them. Back in the day when I raced Ministocks I won many features with a 2000cc engine. Now I'm gettin a little misty eyed thinking back to those days.

And to answer your question.. NO.. The early 70's 2000cc does NOT interchange in any way with any 2.3.
