How did you "Lock" it? Gear loose on shaft? Belt running loose?

Try and get the TFI dist. No box needed and timing will stay the same thru out the rpm you turn. Resonable priced at Advance Auto or Auto Zone. It WILL solve your problem.

Get a TFI from a boneyard, 86-90 mustang or ranger (maybe others) with a 2.3L 4 plug head, module mounted on the side of dist, I paid $20 for mine & its lasted 7 yrs & counting...

Exactly!! TFI is great.. If you buy from parts store, it will run you $100, get it from the bone yard.

Do you guys have problems starting with the timing locked? The stock starters don't seem to be able to handle it once it warms up.

have mine locked at 36 degrees and starts right up all the time. If you had some crazy 15:1 compression it might be harder but im at 11.5:1 and its no problem.

Nothing radical on compression, maybe I just need a fresh starter.. I haven't had a problem starting until I locked the advance on the dist.

    Thanks.

Separate ignition and starter switch, spin starter and then flip ignition on, starts every time....
