    Southern Nationals Series Starts Monday for Ultra-Busy Slate of Races

    BRASSTOWN, NC (July 17, 2014)—Two of the busiest weeks of racing in the Southeast gets kicked off on Monday July 21st with the running of the Tenth Annual Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Old Man’s Garage.

    The two week mini-tour kicks off Monday July 21st at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va. paying $3,500-to-win. The Super Street, Modifieds, Pro-Mini and U-Car divisions will all be on the racing card and racing action is set to begin at 8:00 pm on Monday Night. Last year’s event winner at Wythe Raceway was Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C.

    411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. will be one of two new venues on this year’s schedule as the series will roll into the beautiful Smoky Mountains on Tuesday Night July 22nd paying $3,500 to win. The Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock classes will all be on the racing card. Action will kick off at 7:30 on Tuesday Night.

    Modoc Raceway in Modoc, S.C. returns to the schedule for the first time on Thursday Night July 24th paying $3,500-to-win since the track hosted the first-ever series race back in July of 2005. The Crate Late Models and Super Street will join in the racing program that night with action kicking off at 7:00 pm.

    On Friday Night July 25th the Southern Nationals competitors travel to Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway for Round # 4 of the tour paying $5,300-to-win while the Crate Late Models, Super Street, Mini Stock, Road Warriors and 440’s will all be on the racing card for the evening’s events. Action will get started with 7:00 pm Hot Laps. Last year at Swainsboro, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga. rolled from his fourth place starting spot to claim the event victory.

    Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. will host the series on Saturday Night July 26th paying $5,300 to win during the 15th annual Rebel Yell event. The Crate Late Models, Super Street and Pure Street divisions will all be on tap for the night’s events. Action will kick off with 7:00 pm Hot Laps.

    At Modoc Raceway, Swainsboro Raceway and Screven Motor Speedway there will be added purses and bonuses for the Crate Late Model and Super Street divisions. Read about all that information on the track’s websites.

    On Sunday Night July 27th, Round # 6 of the series will bring action to the Rome Speedway in Rome, Ga. paying $5,300-to-win. The Steel Head Late Model, Crate Late Model, Econo Bombers, Super Bombers, Pony Stocks and Street Cruisers will all be in action as cars will hit the track around 7:00 for action. William Thomas of Phenix City, Ala. claimed last year’s event victory.

    Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Ga. will host Round # 7 of the tour for the first-time as the SNS competitors will be competing for the $3,500 top prize during NASCAR Night at the track featuring NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Austin Dillon and his younger brother NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Ty Dillon. The Crate Late Models, A Hobby, B Hobby and Pony divisions will all be on tap for the night’s events as action will start around 7:00 pm.

    On Thursday Night July 31st the series will roll into Duck River Raceway Park for Round # 8 on the tour paying $3,500-to-win. The 2-Barrel Late Models, Crate Late Models, Street Stocks and Pure Pony divisions will share the stage during the track’s Thursday Night special event. Action will kick off around 7:00 pm Central Time. Eric Jacobsen of Rio Del Mar, Cal. claimed last year’s thrilling victory after charging from ninth spot to do battle with eventual runner-up Billy Ogle Jr. and Chris Madden.

    Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. will host Round # 9 of the tour presented this year by Food City on Friday Night August 1st. This will mark the series’ third appearance to the track located just minutes from Knoxville. The event pays $5,300-to-win while the Limited Late Models, Crate Late Models and Classic Cars will all be in action. Action will kick off with 7:00 pm hot laps. Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C. charged from his sixth place starting spot to claim last year’s top prize.

    On Saturday Night August 2nd the tour will finish the ten race journey with a $5,300-to-win event at the Gary Hall owned high-banked oval. The Late Model Sportsman, Modified Street, Pure Street, Four Cylinders and Classic Cars will all be on the racing card with action set to begin at around 7:30 pm. Jonathan Davenport went on to claim his second series championship with the event victory last season at the track known as the ‘Bad Fast Taz’. Tazewell has been the only track on the tour that has hosted the finale every season.

    Eleven drivers have given intentions on trying to complete the entire tour. Those drivers include: Stacy Boles of Clinton, Tenn., Anthony Burroughs of Minden, La., Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga., Vic Hill of Mosheim, Tenn., Eric Jacobsen of Rio Del Mar, Cal., Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., Pierce McCarter of Gatlinburg, Tenn., Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga. and Austin Smith of Cedartown, Ga.

    Each Night, the tour will feature a complete show of Practice, FK Rod Ends Qualifying, B-Mains and the Main events (either 35 or 53 laps in distance). A $100 entry fee will be charged each night and transponders will be available for rent at each event. At the first series event, provisional starting spots will be based on one from last year’s Southern Nationals Series points and this year’s final Spring Nationals Series points if needed.

    The Southern Nationals Series will feature a points fund in excess of $15,000 with $5,053 going to the Series Champion, second place receives $2,553, third place receives $2,053, fourth place receives $1,553, fifth place receives $1,053, sixth place receives $753, seventh place receives $653 and eighth place in series points will receive $553 along with all other prefect attendance drivers. Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA is the defending series champion. Purses in excess of $200,000 will go out the door in just ten days of racing.

    In addition to the Southern Nationals and Spring Nationals Series point funds, the series has announced a Combined Bonus for the top five drivers who finish the highest with both tours. The overall top driver from each series will receive $5,053, with second place receiving $2,553, third place receiving $2,053, fourth place receiving $1,553 and fifth place receiving $1,053.

    A possible $15,000+ could be won by Billy Ogle Jr. this season if he wins the Spring and Southern Nationals with points fund monies from both tours and the Combined Bonus Money. Also, if a driver was to at least run fifth in both tours, he could receive $3,159 with point funds and the combined bonus.

    The highest finishing CT525 engine or Spec engine in the A-Main each night will receive a $200 cash bonus. Also, the highest finishing Steel Headed engine Late Model will receive a $200 cash bonus. If a 525/Spec or Steel head engine wins the race, then the $200 bonus will be given to the highest finishing open engine super late model.

    Also, the highest finishing CT525 and/or Spec engine driver along with the Steel Head driver will be brought to Victory Lane each night and will be joining the top three feature drivers and will be given an award as well. If a 525/Spec or Steel head engine wins the race, then they will join the other drivers in Victory Lane each night.
