Bub McCool Wins Wild One in MSCCS Go at Greenville

Vicksburg, MS (07/29/14) – Bub McCool continued his mid-season win streak on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) with a $2,500 victory in his #57J McCool Logging/ Victory Circle/Jay D ickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) returned to the gumbo oval for a $2,500-to-win program, and McCool repeated the last series' visit to the facility with a trip to victory lane, however his visit to the winner's circle did not come easy. Twenty-five Super Late Models registered for the event, as Bub started his outing by timing in fourth in his group during qualifications to earn a spot in the dash. He later finished sixth in the dash, which positioned him starting sixth in the in the 50 lap main event.

The third time was the charm after the first two attempts to start the race were halted by a caution before a lap could be completed. McCool showed strength early, getting by David Breazeale and Brian Rickman to lock in the third spot. As the leaders began to work lap traffic, McCool passed Duke Palasini for second, just as the race's third caution waved.

Back under green McCool begun to pressure leader Rick Rickman for the top spot, as Rickman made contact with the outside wall in turn two. On lap 14 the duo split a lap car with Rickman on the bottom and McCool on top, giving McCool the advantage to claim the top spot. Heavy lapped traffic continued to play in McCool's favor as he opened a comfortable gap between himself and Rickman at the halfway point.

Disaster struck on lap 29 when the leaders and lapped cars mixed to bring out the race's final yellow. As McCool slid out of turn two, Leon Henderson drifted into the center of the exit, collecting second-place, Rick Rickman, defacing the side of his car. Rickman's damage was too severe to continue and McCool would be signaled for the caution. McCool's blistering pace had him lapping well into the top 5 -McCool restarted fourth.

After a brief caution period for clean-up, Brian Rickman assumed the point with Breazeale in second, followed by Palasini. But within four laps McCool had charged back to second, and began to close the distance on the leader with ten laps remaining. One circuit later McCool drove by Rickman on the low side in turn four to reclaim the lead.

Rickman would attempt to respond, but McCool's lead continuously grew as the laps wound down. Bub grabbed the third consecutive victory of his mid-season hot-streak, and his second straight win at Greenville's gumbo oval over Rickman, Palasini, Breazeale, and Chad Thrash.

“It was a wild night to say the least," said McCool. “I wasn’t really happy about going to the tail, but I knew that I had lapped a lot of cars and I had a good hot rod.” He concludes by noting, “It all worked out.”
