Default rear gear for 3/8 mile dirt

I have a 2.56 transmission that I run 2nd gear, 8x 22.5x 13r hoosier tires ,and have a 3.45 rear gear in car as of now and I'm getting left behind ... What would be a good combo tranny and rear gear? Also have a 2.14 transmission. And rear gears I have 3.08 and a 3.27 ... Or do I need different rear gears ? Any help will be greatly appreciated... Thanks for your knowledge and posts in advance

your current setup gives you an 8.83 final with a small 13" tire, and on a 3/8 track by the numbers you should be turning just over 10,000 rpm

That's a T5 trans (87-93), same as I use. So u actually have a 8.07 final ratio. Are you getting "left behind" because your screaming the motor at the flagstand or is it just not accelerating? I agree with that gearing & 13" tires on a 3/8 track you could hit 10K on the tach.

If your engine can safely hit 8K, I would use the 3.08. JMO.

I would try the 3.08 rear gear with your tranny in the car first. If that's still too much gear then go with the 2.14 trans and 3.27 rear gear.

The SROD with the 2.56 second gear you could move to 3rd gear and run a 3.73 or 4.11.
    BUCKLE UP NOW, YA HEAR?

I run a 3/8 track too. We run the 214 trans and a 345 rear.
