    Smoky Mountain Speedway Hosts 10th Annual Ironman Classic on Saturday August 16

    Maryville, TN-August 6, 2014- The Southern Nationals Bonus Series returns to action in a big way on Saturday August 16 as the track continues its tradition of big money Super Late Model events with the 10th Annual CT Promotions Ironman Classic presented by Stanley Best Heating and Air on Saturday August 16.

    The Saturday August 16 event at Smoky Mountain Speedway will feature the 10th Annual CT Promotions Ironman Classic presented by Stanley Best Heating and Air and will feature the Southern Nationals Bonus Series in action in a full program of practice, time trials, B-Mains, and the 40-lap, $5,010-to-win Ironman Classic A-Main. Joining the Southern Nationals Bonus Series Super Late Models in action at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday August 16 will be the track’s Limited Late Model division (paying $1,500 to win) and Street Stock division (paying $500 to win).

    Southern Nationals Bonus Series 10th Annual Ironman Classic Smoky Mountain Speedway A-Main Payout (40 Laps): 1) $5,010, 2) $2.500, 3) $1,200, 4) $1,000, 5) $800, 6) $700, 7) $600, 8) $580, 9) $560, 10) $540, 11) $520, 12) $510, 13) $500, 14) $475, 15) $450, 16) $450, 17) $450, 18) $450, 19) $450, 20) $450, 21) $450, 22) $450.

    In addition to the payout, there will be a $250 bonus to the highest finishing driver from the state of Kentucky. This is being done since the Ironman Classic, the brainchild of Chris Tilley, was started in the state of the Kentucky and has been contested in the Bluegrass State in eight of the nine previous events and will reward racers from the state of Kentucky that venture south of the Mason-Dixon line for the event.

    The Super Late Model portion of the event will carry a $100 entry fee and the tire rule for the event will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. These will be the only tires allowed and tires will be checked and tire samples will be taken and sent to lab to insure tire meet the proper compound benchmarks.

    Activities for the 10th Annual CT Promotions Ironman Classic presented by Stanley Best Heating and Air will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., while the general admission area and tier parking area opens at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 6:50 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. Ticket prices in the general admission area will be $15 for adults (children ages 6 to 11 will be $5 and children ages 5 and under will be free) and tier parking it will be $20 for adults, while a pit pass will be $35.

    The CT Promotions Ironman Classic started at Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, KY in 2004 and Jackie Boggs of Grayson, KY won the inaugural event. The event fell to Mother Nature in 2005 and was not rescheduled, but returned once again in 2006 and Chris Combs of Isom, KY would take the win and would follow it up by claiming victory in the 2007 event (both of those events were also contested at Mountain Motor Speedway). The 2008 version of the event would be held at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY and Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN would claim the race victory, with the event returning to Mountain Motor Speedway in 2009 and Josh McGuire of Grayson, KY scoring the win. Shannon Thornsberry of Martin, KY would take the victory at Mountain Motor in 2010, with Jackie Boggs returning to victory lane in the contest in 2011 at Southern Ohio Speedway in Wheelersburg, OH. Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY has won the last two Ironman events, sweeping a doubleheader of action in 2012 at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY and winning the 2013 event at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY. The 2014 edition of the Ironman Classic will mark the sixth different venue that has hosted the event and will be contested for the first time ever in the state of Tennessee.

    There have been six Super Late Model events held already at Smoky Mountain Speedway with five different winners gracing victory lane as Dale McDowell picked up the $7,500 NDRL-sanctioned win on March 7 then Chris Madden picked up the night two victory worth $12,500 on March 8. Billy Ogle Jr. scored the $6,000 prize in the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series-sanctioned event win on April 5th while Ogle again took the payday, this time $5,000 during the SAS-Rockin’ with the Stars event on April 26th. Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga. would claim $10,000 during the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Ole Smoky Moonshine Classic event on June 21st. On Friday July 11th Randy Weaver went on to claim the Ultimate Super Late Model Series-sanctioned $5,000-to-win event. Chris Madden won his second feature of the season at Smoky Mountain on Friday Night August 1st pocketing $5,300 with the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series.
