CARTERSVILLE, GA – The theme for Week 21 of the 27-week 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series is “Let The Netting Begin.” All drivers in the Top 20 of the point standings have reached the 14 week mark of their respective seasons and will now begin to try and net points to increase their season total.

Netting points in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series means a driver will try to replace the lowest weekly point total among their best 14 with a higher one. With seven weeks left in the season, five drivers are going to have to get on a big winning streak to challenge point leader Chris Holley of Dayton, TX for the $10,000 National Championship.

Holley is trying to become the second driver in the nine-year history of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series to record a “Perfect Season” of 700 points that is represented by 14 50-point wins. Holley currently has 12 wins in 14 races this season, all at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, has 698 points, and is two points away from a Perfect Season.

In the two races Holley didn’t win, he finished second, so now he will attempt to net one point with a 50-point win in two of the remaining seven weeks of the season. Ironically, the other driver to record a Perfect Season in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series was defending National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS.

In one of those two races Holley finished second in, Daspit traveled six hours from Mississippi to Texas to beat the point leader. Daspit also kept Holley from breaking Daspit’s season record of seven wins in-a-row. Holley now has a new streak going and will be looking for his fifth straight win Saturday night.

There are still five drivers mathematically eligible to challenge Holley for the championship since there are eight opportunities to score victories, as there is one double-feature night with a Week 13 Make-Up feature scheduled for August 22 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN, Daspit, Heath Minor of Ralph, AL and Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS all have six 50-point wins this season. Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS is outside the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings, but he has seven 50-point wins, and two more weeks to earn full points.

Even if Holley clinches the title in the next couple of weeks, the excitement will carry on as drivers battle for the second through tenth points fund paying spots and an invitation to the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet in January at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA. Just how exciting is it? Just 19 points separate second through tenth place in the standings!

There will be 13 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races on the Week 21 schedule of events with two events on Friday night and 11 on Saturday night. The two Friday night races will be hosted by Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS. Four $1,000-to-win races will highlight Saturday night action.

The four $1,000-to-win Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 races will be held at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL in a race co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series, and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will present a Highway 45 Challenge Series race.

Also hosting Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 events will be Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 680 points, and he will be trying to net on a 47. That means Bridgmon must finish third or better in his next race to increase his season point total. Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL is third in the standings with 678 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46.

King and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS are tied for the fourth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, as each driver has best 14 week total of 676 points. King, who holds the tie breaker with six wins to Lee’s four, will be trying to net on a 43, while Lee will be trying to net on a 46.

Daspit is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 total of 673 points, and he will be trying to net on a 44. A 50-point win would be Daspit’s seventh of the season to keep him in title contention, and net the defending champ nine points. That would bring his season total up to 779 and possibly into the top five of the point standings.

Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN is seventh in the standings with a best 14 week total of 666 points, and he will be trying to net on a 41. Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 665 points, and he will try to net on a 39.

Minor is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 662 points. A 50-point win in Week 21 action would be the seventh of the season for Minor and keep him in the hunt for the championship by netting on a 41 to earn nine points and bring his season total to 671.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 661. Skinner will be trying to net on a 42 in Week 21 competition.

Arnold is 14th in the standings with a best 14 week total of 645 points. If Arnold can pull off his seventh win of the season in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 21 action, he would stay in title contention by netting on a 25, which would bring his best 14 week point total to 670 points.

With all of the Top 20 drivers in the point standings reaching the 14 week mark of their respective seasons, the Weekly Point Averages (WPAs) among the Top 20 drivers is not in play for this week. However, there is one driver lurking in “No Man’s Land” that is poised and ready to blast his way from out of the weeds and to the top of the points list in the coming weeks.

Palasini is way back in the 28th spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 587 points, seven 50-point wins, and two more weeks to earn full points. Over the next two weeks, if Palasini can turn in a 50-point win in each week, that would bring his season point total 687, and possibly right in contention to challenge for the National Championship.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
