    Question Engine Oil Temp?

Can the choice of oil filter cause high oil temp? Is Wix oil filter the best choice?

In my opinion the only thing that causes high oil temps is the lack of a oil cooler. Different filters may help but a cooler fixes the problem.

So a few engine builders I've used have said that how tight the motor is should determine the weight oil ran. We switched from a 20-50 to Lucas 15-40 and it cooled the oil almost 40*. I'm not an engine builder but it made sense to me. We had oil coolers and fans and it still was getting hot but a simple oil change to different weight did the most good.

    Yep.
Any excess oil being pumped, bypassed and returned to the pan will increase in heat due to the pump friction and pressure. An oil filter usually has a built in bypass.

So i changed to the Wix filter, increase in oil pressure by 5 lbs. oil temp. decrease by 30*. Temp while racing is around 270* but drops off quickly during cautions to 230* so i would say that the Wix filter is a good choice.
