    Default 2300 cam tower seals

    Just finished running a rebuilt head and a new cam. We were about 5 minutes into the breakin an d noticed the oil pressure had dropped from 60 psig to 25 psig. We stopped the run and pulled the valve cover. All 4 cam tower seals were damaged. Our engine builder has been building 2300 motors for over 30 yrs and has not seen this before.

    Anybody seen this and any ideas on what could have happened.

    i was unaware that the cam towers had seals...other than the 1st tower has the cam seal
    No matter how hard you try...you cant fix stupid!!!

    Sorry about that 62. I should have said BEARINGS. Each tower has one. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

    Could be a restriction in the oil gallery. Oil gallery in the cam? A restriction where the oil gallery in the block meets the gallery in the head? Not enough bearing clearance. Bearings installed wrong. Just a few ideas.

    are the tops of the cam towers plugged,or is the hole still there?

    I had that happen once. It ended up being a bent cam. It was a brand new cam.

    Looks like the problem was 2 bad cam bearings. Put more bearing in and ran for 40 minutes. Checked everything again and no problems.

    If the head is milled severely check and make sure the oil ports are connected where the block meets the head. Most need a little dremel work there if the head is severely milled.They don't take a ton of oil to survive but they do need some.

    What you found was 2 damaged bearings. They were probably installed wrong. I doubt it was 2 faulty bearings. I'm suprised it didn't damage the cam.
