Jeep Van Wormer Nabs Top Five at Eldora Speedway; DTWC Up Next

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) Jeep Van Wormer and the Iron Motorsports team invaded the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on Saturday evening, October 4 for the annual running of the 'UMP Nationals.' The UMP DIRTcar Series and American Late Model Series (ALMS) presided over the action at the "Big E" and a $5,000 top prize was on the line in the single-day affair.

Jeep laid down the twenty-second fastest lap overall during the qualifying session and later placed third in his loaded heat race. After starting the 40-lap headliner from the inside of the fifth row, Jeep was able to pass four competitors en route to a strong fifth place performance. At the end of the 'UMP Nationals,' the Pinconning, Michigan ace trailed only victor Bobby Pierce, Kent Robinson, Scott James, and Matt Miller. “I feel a whole lot better about our Eldora program after this past weekend as opposed to when we were there a month ago for the World 100,” exclaimed Van Wormer this week via telephone. “We brought a different car/motor combination this time and I sure wish we would have done that for the World weekend. The car was remarkably better and we will keep working hard at the shop on it to get ready for Portsmouth. That will probably be the last race of our season and I would love to end it on a strong note!”

Following the top five effort, the #55 team plans on taking this upcoming October 10-11 weekend off from Dirt Late Model competition. Next up for Jeep will be a trip to Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 17-18 for the 34th Annual ‘Dirt Track World Championship.’ The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will once again sanction their season finale at PRP next weekend and a whopping $50,000 winner’s check will be up for grabs. Qualifying and heat races are scheduled for Friday night, while the consolation events and the 100-lapper are slated for that Saturday evening.
