    Default Caliper bracket

    10.5 Granada bracket.
I have clearance issues that caused the upper control arm to come into contact with the caliper bracket. The bracket bent and jammed the caliper and pads into the rotor which caused them to over heat and chunk out. Are there any known caliper brackets that move the caliper more toward the 9 o'clock position?

Can you mount your upper control arm with the clevis bolt in front, that is the way we ran ours on several different chassis. Best of luck.

That doesn't work on this because the profile height is the same on both sides of the ball joint holder. I guess I'll have to make my own brackets.

How about running a half inch longer stud in the balljoint. You should check and see what impact this will have on your roll center, etc.

I'm doing that now. It's been a while since I've plotted the RC. I have the QA1 low friction so changing studs is easy enough. I've also made other small adjustments the pick up points over the year last year so plotting RC before anything else is a great idea. thank you.

My RC came out to 2z and 4y.
After installing a .500 longer ball joint stud I got the clearance and the RC moved to 2z and 8y.
It's an acceptable compromise for next year. My car was a little tight on throttle anyway so maybe this will help alleviate the problem.

Sounds like you don't have the right spindles. I had some pinto spindles that were not the right ones and that did the same exact thing. So I purchased the correct ones and now there is plenty of clearance. There is near an inch difference in pin height.

I pulled them myself from a 74 Ford Pinto that sat idle since '88. I have already verified pin inclination. That's good thinking though.

there are 2 different height Pinto/Mustang II spindles. I cannot remember the year ranges, but I think the later model years are the taller ones. top to bottom measurement is 8 -8 1/8" if I remember right, the short ones are 1" shorter than that.
I think there should be lifeguards in the genepool.

A not so very accurate tape measure just told me mine are 6 7/8 from top to bottom or 5 1/8 inside to inside the ball joint boss. According to a quickly Google search those are Pinto Spindles. The MII are shorter and start in '74.

Which one are you suggesting I have?

I know now that the 74-80 pinto/mustang II is the correct ones.

I believe you have the older model one, which is 1" shorter than the ones that everyone use today.

Are the Caliper brackets different between the short and tall?

Chassis Guys say I have the short ones which are incorrect. He suggests the tall ones rather then just changing studs.

caliper bracket is the same I believe. extra height is gained above were bracket is bolted to spindle
