Billy Moyer Leads Early Portion of DTWC at Portsmouth; Finishes Sixth

(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS) Billy Moyer and his famed #21 team headed to Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 17-19 for the 34th edition of the 'Dirt Track World Championship.' The finale for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series attracted a stellar 89 car field and Billy was gunning for his third DTWC title, as well as the $50,000 payday. On Friday night, Billy clicked off the fifth quickest lap in Group A during the time trial session prior to scoring an impressive heat race triumph over Mason Zeigler, Rod Conley, Jackie Boggs, and Tim McCreadie.

Following a rain-out on Saturday evening, the conclusion of the crown jewel event took place on Sunday afternoon at PRP. Billy started the 100-lapper from the outside of the front row and led all but one circuit in the first 39 laps. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer from Batesville, Arkansas then raced hard all over the top five throughout the remainder of the distance before slipping back to sixth at the finish behind only winner Scott Bloomquist, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Jimmy Owens, Don O'Neal, and Jason Feger. Another big race is on the schedule for the Billy Moyer Racing (BMR) team on October 24-25, as they will travel to Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi for the 20th Annual Coors Light ‘Fall Classic.’ Qualifying and heat race action will take place in the Magnolia State on Friday night, while the consolation races and the 100-lap feature will highlight Saturday’s portion of the two-day extravaganza. A $15,000 top prize will be on the line this weekend at Whynot, while each feature starter will receive at least $1,000.
