Ray Cook Runner-Up in SAS Visit to Talladega Short Track

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook was back behind the wheel of Tommy Pope's #53 Warrior racecar over the October 17-18 weekend at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama. The doubleheader, which accompanied NASCAR's visit across the road at Talladega Superspeedway, kicked off with an unsanctioned program on Friday night. Ray posted the second quickest lap in Group B during the qualifying session and later started the $2,000 to win feature event from the outside of the second row. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace was then battling for the second spot in the 30-lapper when he unfortunately spun and was subsequently involved in a wreck, which relegated him to a disappointing twenty-fourth place effort.

The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) then rolled into TST on Saturday evening to preside over a $4,000 to win shootout. Ray knocked down the fourth fastest time in Group B during qualifying, which locked him into the outside of the fourth row in the 40-lap headliner. The popular driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" was able to climb all the way up to second at the track deemed as the "Hornets Nest" to finish a strong runner-up behind only victor Riley Hickman. Complete results from the double-dip can be found online at www.talladegashorttrack.com.

Ray will now enjoy the upcoming October 24-25 weekend off from racing action, but he will still be at a racetrack. The 2nd Annual Monster Mash weekend will be held at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina – the 1/4-mile bullring that Ray has promoted the last several years. The season-ending extravaganza features Monster Trucks, a Demolition Derby, and an Awards Ceremony for the 2014 Track Champions.
