Jason Hughes Goes Two-for-Three in Sooner Showdown

Westville, Oklahoma (10/28/14) – Jason Hughes enjoyed a great weekend behind the wheel of his West Siloam Pawn #12 Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified as he won over $5,000 during the 2nd Annual Sooner Showdown at Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma).

The opening leg of the 2nd Annual Sooner Showdown was held on Thursday night as thirty-eight competitors took to the lightning fast oval. Jason enjoyed a strong start to the three-day mega event as he drove his #12 entry to his first victory of the 2014 season. Hughes locked into the eleventh starting spot for the $1,500-to-win, preliminary feature via a second place finish in his heat race. He charged through the pack in the feature to take the checkered flag first ahead of Rodney Sanders, Brian Williams, Austin Siebert and Tad Davis.

Another $2,000-to-win program was contested on Friday evening, and Jason would race his way to a fourth place finish in the second b-main to earn a starting spot in the feature. In the main event, Hughes advanced to a fourteenth place finish in the final rundown.

On Saturday night the $2,500-to-win finale was held for the 2nd Annual Sooner Showdown, and Hughes used a second place finish in his heat race to lock into the feature event. As the finale went green, Hughes charged to the lead and would hold off Terry Phillips for his second victory of the weekend. Rodney Sanders, Jeremy Rasmussen and Joe Duvall rounded out the top five finishers.

"It felt great to get back to victory lane over the weekend," said Hughes. "Salina is one of my favorite tracks to race at, so that made the weekend that much better."

Jason also earned a $1,000 bonus for winning two of the three events during the course of the weekend to push his total winnings to over $5,000. Full results from the events are available at www.SalinaHighbanksSpeedway.com .

Next on tap for Jason is a trip this weekend to Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Ardmore, Oklahoma) for a trio of United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) during the inaugural Halloween Havoc festivities. Action opens on Thursday evening with a $2,000-to-win event before a $3,000-to-win program is held on Friday, and the weekend concludes with a $4,000-to-win race on Saturday night.
