4.11 vs 4.86
Is one preffered over the other? If so, why?

4.11 also allows you to change gears in smaller increments

Thanks, we have also ran a 4.86 but have noticed a lot of people running 4.11's

Keep in mind if you ever need to borrow a gear from someone, many people use the 4.86 so you might limit your resources. But I, too, have heard the less drag reasoning.

I've heard the less drag point of view on the 4.11, but have also heard weaker small gear on the gear changes. The farther away from your base gear, the smaller the small gear is. Less teeth more torque on less teeth. To each his own.

its less rotating weight,thats why there going to them,also if you go with titanium axles there is some more weight,if you do all you can there its about 20-30lbs of weight you can save there and its rotating weight

Anybody running a 4.11/8" ring gear rearend in a dirt late model? What kind of engine/hp?

I have run my 602 crate late with the 4:12 8" in 10" housing for years with NO problems and it dose not have pinion nose support. If you get the center kit or a new rear with 8" winters offers it now with the nose support but you can not run lockers.

We have been running an 8" Winters with an open motors and SUPR spec motors for three years now and lost the first one this year. These are real good Pro Power motors. We only lunched it after running on real rough tracks all season. We did end up cracking a couple of side bells this year, I think because of excess flex. If this flex happens at the wrong areas internally, I could see how this could lead to excess back lash and gear failure.
But, I'm really just guessing on how that actually failed.
