Rodney Sanders Wraps Up 2014 Season with 37 Wins

Happy, Texas (11/24/14) – Rodney Sanders officially put a wrap on his 2014 season over the weekend, but not before he claimed one more win in his Swan Energy #20 Kimrad Transport/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified.

Another busy weekend for Rodney Sanders found the team pitted at El Paso Speedway Park (El Paso, Texas) for the Inaugural Turkey Hunt at the 3/8 mile oval. Rodney pulled double duty, competing in both the Super Late Model and Open Wheel Modified ranks.

Twenty-two Super Late Models filled the pit area for the opening round on Friday night, which boosted a $2,500 top prize for competitors. Sanders won his preliminary heat race to lock into the outside-front-row for the 25 lap feature. When the race went green, Rodney assumed the point from pole sitter, Mercedes Abercrombie exiting turn four on the first lap. Sanders showed the way for much of the race, fending off a hard charging Billy Moyer Jr. in the process. However, his efforts would only pay off until the final restart with just three laps remaining when Moyer Jr. used the high line to take control off turn two. Moyer Jr. led the final circuits to score the win while Sanders settled in second. Don Shaw, R.C. Whitwell and Jason Krohn rounded out the top five finishers.

In the Open Wheel Modified main event, Sanders charged front his fourth starting spot to claim his 37th victory of the season aboard his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified. Rodney picked up $1,000 for his efforts, and was followed across the finish line by Dave Mass, Fito Gallardo, Jake Gallardo and Royal Jones.

On Saturday night the winner's check increased to $3,000 for Super Late Models, and a heat race win positioned Rodney starting fourth in the 30 lap finale. Throughout the duration of the main event, Sanders hunted race-leader Billy Moyer Jr. but ultimately settled to a second place finish behind Moyer Jr. at the checkered flag. Completing the top five finishers were Jason Krohn, Don Shaw and Garrett Alberson.

The Open Wheel Modified division once again posted a $1,000 top prize, and Sanders used a second place finish in his heat race to lock into the fourth starting spot for the feature. Rodney battled amongst the top five during the course of the main event before crossing the finish line in third behind race winner, Fito Gallardo and Jake Gallardo. Philip Houston and Dave Mass completed the top five.
