    Default chalk on tires

can anyone explain to me why I see some cars with chalk going around the circumference of the steer tires? Thanks.

So a crew member can make an education assumption of the steering input the driver is using. Other methods of getting an educated idea of steering input rely upon data acquisition and feed back from the driver that keeps in memory the location of a piece of tape on the steering wheel during cornering

we use white spray paint around the centerline of each tire you will also need a tire scribe like in the photos below to scribe the centerline the paint simply makes the scribed line show up better. now you can measure the distance between each tires center to get a true toe reading. with bump gages your ready comes from the side wall of the tire which can be incorrect due to bent rims or bad tires but it is the most common way due to how much easier it is.

A jack stand and a piece of chalk works well too. OR a nail in a 2x4 for a scribe.

Ya uh no it's not for stewing input haha. But I'm hoping hat was the joke of the day. 👍It's simply for alignment or if lined on side of tire used for tire/rim slippage. Usually not chalk though a me he line is usually spray paint scribed. Haha good rear for my Friday 😂
