Rick Eshelman Hired as Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series Announcer

By Chris Tilley, Series P.R. Coordinator

BRASSTOWN, NC (March 6, 2015)—Promoter Ray Cook of the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series presented by Schaeffer’s Oil is pleased to welcome veteran announcer Rick Eshelman, who will become the new voice of the series beginning in 2015.

The 53-year-old from Phenix City, Ala. has been known as the voice of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series since its re-birth in 2004 up until midway through the 2013 season when he took a break from the grueling road schedule. He is also known for his five year stint at America’s most recognizable venue Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio where he had the privilege to call the only Million-to-Win event in 2001 among several Dream & World 100 events.

Rick started his announcing career in April of 1979 during opening night at Flat Rock Speedway in Michigan for an ARCA Racing Series event. His dirt racing career started in May of 1982 where he called an event at what was then Grand Forks County Speedway in North Dakota now the River Cities Speedway.

Eshelman’s 37th season behind the microphone started in Florida during February Speed Weeks but will officially join the series as the new voice starting at Smoky Mountain Speedway next week. Eshelman will succeed Chris Tilley, who will shift his focus to the Public Relations side of the series. Michael Despain of Campbellsville, Ky. will continue announce some Southern Nationals Bonus Series events including the Revelution Race Cars Iron-Man Speed Week in September.

The 2015 Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series presented by Schaeffer’s Oil will kick-off its third season of action on Friday and Saturday March 13-14 at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. as part of the Second Annual “Tennessee Tipoff Classic” weekend paying $5,000-to-win on Friday Night March 13th and $10,000-to-win on Saturday Night March 14th. Further information on these events can be obtained by visiting www.SmokyMountainSpeedway.com.

Further information on the Spring Nationals, Southern Nationals and Southern Nationals Bonus Series can be obtained by calling Promoter Ray Cook at (828) 360-5353 or Series P.R. Coordinator Chris Tilley at (606) 219-1723 or visit the official website located at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com.

The old man's garage company told all of their employees weeks ago the company was closing as soon as their current orders were met. I sure hate to see Ray lose a sponsor for his series but it seems inevitable.
